This fall, though, there will be much more at stake than just chest-thumping pride. The winner of Thursday night’s 7 p.m. showdown at Yorktown could end up being the outright Liberty District champion.

Va. Emergency SNAP Plan — “VENA benefits will be issued weekly, not monthly, in hopes the federal shutdown will end soon. The Falls Church City Council is considering a major increase to a pool of funding to support local residents facing short-term financial difficulties.

City staff originally proposed adding $20,000 to $25,100 previously allocated for an assistance fund that provides eligible households with up to $1,000 in support per year.

A new party supply store is planning to open in a vacant Columbia Pike storefront where a family-owned rug shop closed last year.

New signs have appeared for Tysons-based Party Mania at 2330 Columbia Pike, which has been empty since the rug retailer Manoukian Brothers Oriental Rugs relocated to Langston Blvd.


Events

As brisker weather returns, the outdoor ice rink in Pentagon City is reopening Friday in advance of a free Halloween-themed skating event.

The rink at Westpost at National Landing opens for the 2025-2026 winter season at 10 a.m. on Halloween, a spokesperson told ARLnow. The next day, an event called “Thriller on Ice” will feature a DJ “spinning all your favorite Halloween tracks” from 5-8 p.m. this Saturday.

Election offices in Arlington and Falls Church are on the lookout for any glitches with the U.S. Postal Service handling official election-related mail.

A relatively small number of ballots from the office of Falls Church registrar David Bjerke were mailed but had not yet reached residents who requested them, Bjerke reported at an Oct. 23 meeting of the Falls Church Electoral Board.
