Amid chilly weather and decorations going up around Arlington, the holiday season — and, by extension, Christmas tree sales season — has arrived.
Many tree sales around Arlington will start on Friday and Saturday, right after Thanksgiving. In parks, parking lots and garden centers, the festive firs won’t be hard to find — though some markets encourage early shopping.

Where have all the cowboys gone? Um… I mean condominiums.
For new condominiums, this last cycle has been a bit sleepy. For those wanting to own a piece of Arlington, it has been block after block of attractive new rentals, but no chance to own. If you are in the market for a new condominium, there isn’t a single new one on the market today to consider, either in presale or recently delivered with a model to tour. The first Arlington location of a French-inspired cafe and bakery chain plans to open in Courthouse next year.
New York City-based Maman is coming to the ground floor of The Commodore apartments at 2055 15th Street N. Expected to open around summer 2025, Maman — meaning “mom” in French — is known for its blue floral aesthetic and menu items like quiche and tartine.

Arlington County crews are on scene of a water main break in the North Highlands neighborhood, west of Rosslyn.
The break was reported early this morning along the 2100 block of N. Courthouse Road. A portion of the roadway buckled as a result of the water pressure.

A “community mural” that residents painted in collaboration with a local artist was unveiled Saturday inside a Buckingham affordable housing complex.
“Growing Together: The Forest of Us” depicts a scene in Lubber Run, nearby The Cadence at 4333 Arlington Blvd. Artist Lianna Zaragoza led six community workshops to create the mural as part of the 2024 IMPACT Art Residency Program.
With the deadline for School Board action looming, two major advocacy groups are pressing for a blanket ban on student phone use during the instructional day in Arlington.

Busy Night for ACPD in Clarendon — From Dave Statter: “A bunch of fights with arrests. This was 1:45 a.m. EMS was called & at least one taken away by police from a scuffle on the sidewalk in the area of Clarendon Ballroom & Spider Kelly’s… At 3:00 police found a ‘man down’ at Clarendon & Garfield. Metro to Enforce Bus Fares — “A major fare enforcement campaign is about to ramp up on Metrobus. WMATA has been getting tough on fare evasion on the rails for some time now, but the transit agency says it’s now turning its attention to its buses. Tejada Departs Airports Authority Board — Former County Board member Walter Tejada was among two Virginia representatives of the board of directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority whose terms expired Nov. 23. Tejada had been appointed to fill a vacancy on the authority by then-Gov. Terry McAuliffe in 2016 was reappointed to a full six-year term then-Gov. Ralph Northam in 2018. The Bishop O’Connell Knights enjoyed another strong campaign, one of the best yet, in boys soccer.
The Knights finished 17-5, the most wins in a season since Chris Jennings took over as head coach 13 years ago. The squad had eight shutouts and reached the tournament semifinals of both the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and Division I state competitions.
