Compass Coffee plans to close one of its two cafes in Ballston after filing for bankruptcy yesterday (Tuesday).

A coffeehouse at 4300 Wilson Blvd is one of 10 locations where the regional cafe chain is seeking to cancel its lease as soon as Jan. 30, according to a motion filed in D.C. bankruptcy court.

A fast-casual Korean restaurant with K-pop themed advertising has taken over a chicken spot in Ballston.

K-Food Casual has replaced Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken & Wings at 875 N. Randolph Street, with graphics inspired by the movie “KPop Demon Hunters” and a menu playing heavily on kimbap and bibimbap dishes.

A 20-year-old man is behind bars after police say he seriously injured an employee of a business in Ballston.

The assault happened early Saturday morning on the 800 block of N. Glebe Road, according to the latest Arlington County Police Department crime report. Initial reports suggest the business was the Westin hotel and the victim was a 60-year-old employee, who was left bleeding from the head.

A pair of teenage suspects is facing charges after police say they crashed a car they had just stolen near Ballston.

The incident happened around 11:15 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, along the 600 block of N. Tazewell Street. According to police, the teens were trying door handles before finding an unlocked vehicle, getting in, and tampering with the ignition. They then “began driving out of the parking space when they struck an unoccupied, parked vehicle resulting in minor damage.”

Arlington’s summertime experiment using high tech to evaluate the state of sidewalks delivered mixed results.

The county used Kiwibots — laser-equipped robots — to roll up and down the sidewalks of the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor for two weeks in July, assessing conditions.

Friends and family of a pedestrian badly injured in an apparent road rage incident in Ballston are seeking help covering steep medical bills.

As of this morning (Tuesday), a GoFundMe campaign had raised more than $15,000 to support Nick Battista. The personal trainer at the Onelife Fitness in Ballston Quarter was struck by a driver while he crossed the street near the intersection of N. Wakefield Street and N. Glebe Street last Thursday.

Thursday was a busy night of vehicular incidents for Arlington County first responders.

Less than two hours after a pair of pedestrians were struck and injured in an alleged road rage hit-and-run, another pedestrian was struck a few blocks away in Ballston. A woman crossing in the crosswalk at Fairfax Drive and N. Utah Street was hospitalized, police say, after she was struck by the driver of a pickup truck.

The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of N. Glebe Road and N. Wakefield Street in Ballston, near SER Restaurant. Initial reports suggested both victims suffered serious traumatic injuries after being intentionally struck by a driver.

A new medical spa and wellness studio are coming to Ballston, taking over the location of a wine bar that closed last month.

McLean-based Evexia Med Spa plans to open a second location at 4301 Wilson Blvd — the former Grand Cru Wine Bar and Bistro space — alongside a new “recovery wellness center,” Evexia Bio Studio, Evexia Managing Partner Chirjeev Sawhney told ARLnow.
