Two Washington-Lee High School students suffered minor injuries after the car they were riding in hit a tree in a home’s front yard near the school.

The car hit the tree just after 11 a.m. on the 1600 block of N. Randolph Street after veering off the road. The crash occurred in the Cherrydale neighborhood, near the Cherry Valley Nature Area.

All lanes of S. Walter Reed Drive are closed in the area of Four Mile Run Drive due to a major crash.

The wreck happened just before 3:45 p.m. Monday on the steep hill leading down to Four Mile Run Drive. Initial reports suggest that at least three vehicles were involved and at least two people were hurt and are being transported to the hospital.

Initial reports suggest a car and a Jeep collided head-on and another car ran into a light pole at the intersection of S. Glebe Road and 12th Street, in front of the Post Office. Medics are evaluating vehicle occupants for injuries.

One southbound lane of Glebe is currently blocked just south of Columbia Pike, according to scanner traffic. Drivers should expect significant traffic impacts in the area.

Sixteenth 9/11 Anniversary — A flag was unfurled at the Pentagon this morning as the nation marked the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. President Donald Trump, Defense Secretary James Mattis and Joint Chiefs chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford were among those expected to attend a ceremony at the Pentagon, honoring the 184 people killed in the attack there. Another Police-Impersonation Phone Scam — Local residents are again getting calls from a scammer claiming to be a law enforcement officer, demanding a fine be paid over the phone. As a reminder, police never call on the phone to collect fines. [Twitter]

Crash on Columbia Pike — A car veered off the side of Columbia Pike and knocked a light pole over on the sidewalk in front of Lost Dog Cafe. No serious injuries were reported. The aftermath of the crash was caught on video. [Facebook]

(Updated at 2:20 p.m.) Police and firefighters responded to a crash involving a car and a dump truck on I-395 Friday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. on northbound I-395, approaching Washington Blvd. The force of the collision trapped the driver inside the car; firefighters had to heavy tools to cut one of the doors open to extricate her.
