D.C.-area restaurant Dolan Uyghur plans to expand further into Northern Virginia with a new Falls Church location.

The new eatery hopes to open by Friday, Oct. 18 at 400 S. Maple Avenue, in the space formerly held by Pizzeria Orso, owner Hamid Kerim told ARLnow. The business also still plans to open a new location in Crystal City, although it has pushed back the planned opening date from November to February or March 2025.


News

Arlington has accepted an additional $20.7 million in federal and state funds as work on the new entrance to the Crystal City Metro station moves forward.

The Arlington County Board approved the hefty appropriation on Saturday. The Federal Transit Administration provided 80% of the funds, while 20% comes from the Virginia Dept. of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).


Events

A day of German beers, food and music is coming to Crystal City later this month for the neighborhood’s annual Oktoberfest celebration.

The festival — based on a celebration of beer and Bavarian culture in Munich, Germany — will run from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2200 S. Eads Street.

A Cuban cafe and bar is the latest storefront set to open under a new apartment complex in Crystal City.

The grand opening of Colada Shop’s latest location — at 244 19th Court S., on the street level of The Grace and Reva apartments — is scheduled this coming Monday, Sept. 9.

Amazon and Toby’s Homemade Ice Cream have partnered to serve free banana splits outside HQ2 this afternoon (Friday).

From noon to 2 p.m. today at Metropolitan Park, 510 14th Street S., the community is invited to celebrate National Banana Split Day with a free scoop of chocolate, vanilla or strawberry ice cream and customized toppings. This is in addition to the free bananas passersby can ordinarily snag near HQ2.


News

August has been a busy month for police responding to vehicle thefts at rental car lots in the Crystal City area.

Another such incident — at least the third this month and the fourth this summer — was reported over the weekend. It happened at the same Avis and Budget lot on the 2600 block of Richmond Highway as an armed carjacking on Aug. 1.

An eatery offering fresh poké, bento boxes, sushi rolls and taiyaki waffles has opened its first Arlington location.

Fat Fish Rolls & Twists held a grand opening last week for its new kiosk at Water Park in Crystal City (1601 Crystal Drive). Executive Chef Robert Lucas Irwin told ARLnow it was a “really good weekend” for the restaurant that serves “a little bit of everything.”

A whole new cast of retail and service characters is developing under The Grace and Reva apartments in Crystal City.

Veterinary hospital GoodVets is the newest in a series of tenants at 1900 Crystal Drive — including a cafe, a nail salon and a bar — announced by property owner JBG Smith. These will all join the recently opened Tatte and Van Leeuwen.

A new player is entering the fitness market in south Arlington.

A Club Studio is expected to open later this year in the National Gateway complex at 3550 S. Clark Street, bringing a gym with cryotherapy services, boutique fitness classes and a “recovery lab” to the area near Potomac Yard and Crystal City.


Events

Arlington’s annual 9/11 5K race is returning to Pentagon City next month — this year looking to finally pass $1 million in total donations.

The Arlington Police, Fire, Sheriff and ECC 9/11 Memorial Race — which donates all proceeds to organizations that support first responders, military personnel and victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks — will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7. The run has generated a total of over $950,000 since it began in 2002.
