William Dinwiddie Tucker (Age 95)

Lt. Col. William Dinwiddie “Bill” Tucker USAF (Ret.), 94, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2023. Bill, son of the late Hubert Quinton Tucker, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Carpenter Tucker, was born in Washington, DC, on October 5, 1928.

Obituary: James Rodgers Henderson (1947-2023)

James Rodgers Henderson passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023 in Arlington, VA. James was born in Winchester, MA on November 14, 1947 to Robert Fisher Henderson and Jeraldine Rodgers Henderson. He grew up in various locales, including Guam and Puerto Rico, while his father served as a U.S. Coast Guard officer. The family eventually settled in his father’s hometown of Reading, MA where he graduated from high school in 1965.

Jim received a degree in Physics from Northeastern University in 1970. He then served in the Army from 1970 to 1972 as an Intelligence Officer. After military service, he pursued a career as a Physics Engineer for various defense contractors in the Washington, DC area. One of Jim’s life’s passions, which he shared with his parents, was genealogical research. They made many trips up and down the East Coast and across the Midwest tracking down primary documents and publishing in various genealogy journals including The New England Historical and Genealogical Register.

Obituary: Monica Rosas Dominguez (2005-2023)

Monica, 17 years old, passed away on Saturday, January 14th, after multiple years of battling with anxiety, depression, and a severe eating disorder.

Monica had many interests such as being a member of girl scouts since kindergarten, rec soccer, Mexican Folk dance, volunteering at the pet shelter to help feed the cats, and cooking delicious meals/pastries for her loved ones. She had also been a member of St. Ann Catholic Church where she contributed as an altar server during the Spanish mass.

Long-time local developer, civic leader and philanthropist Preston Caruthers has died.

Caruthers passed away on New Year’s Day at the age of 95.

Arlington civil rights activist Kent Carter remembered for his leadership, love of family

On Saturday afternoon, Kent Carter left Arlington to celebrate his 40th birthday on Turks and Caicos, the Caribbean islands southeast of the Bahamas, with his long-time girlfriend.

He was supposed to fly back on Tuesday.

Billionaire Contributes to Board Candidate — “Who is Arthur Rock and why did he contribute $15,000 – a large amount by local standards – to the re-election campaign of Democratic County Board candidate Matt de Ferranti? The first question is perhaps the easier of the two to answer. SFH Prices Up 11 Percent — “Something may have to give, eventually, but, for now, average single-family-home sales prices in Arlington continue to spike, according to new data. The average sales price of the 108 existing single-family homes that went to closing across the county in June stood at just over $1.35 million, up 11 percent from the already red-hot market of June 2021.” [Sun Gazette]

CAIR Backs Arlington House Bill — “The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed its support for legislation that would rename a memorial currently dedicated to Confederate General Robert E. Trash Collection Starting Earlier — “In an effort to get a jump on the day and maybe beat a bit of summer heat, curbside collection crews will be starting their routes 30 minutes earlier in the morning beginning next week. The new start time of 6:30 a.m. is considered a pilot, with the results to be evaluated after a few months. As usual, recycling/trash/organics carts need to be at the curb by 6 a.m. on weekly pick-up day. Putting them out the night before is perfectly fine–if that’s how you roll.” [Arlington County]

Bezos Space Firm Has Arlington Office — Blue Origin “has a small existing office at 1530 Wilson Blvd. in Arlington… which the Blue Origin website describes as its ‘East Coast business office supporting government relations, sales and business development efforts.’ A lobbying disclosure form filed last month with the federal government also puts Blue Origin’s presence at that address. The Rosslyn office will remain open after Blue Origin occupies its new Reston space.” [Washington Business Journal]
