One lane on the 21st Street N. bridge over I-66 is closing for two months starting today (Monday).

Until early August, only northbound traffic may pass over the bridge near the MOM’s Organic Market north of Courthouse. Then the opposite lane will closed as construction crews complete deck work on the other side, the Virginia Department of Transportation said in a press release.

A big traffic pattern change is coming this weekend, as part of ongoing construction on the GW Parkway.

The northbound lanes of the Parkway will close between Route 123, just north of Arlington, and the Beltway. The closure will allow for work on the ramp from the Parkway to I-495.

Streetscape upgrades may be coming to busy intersections along George Mason Drive and S. Carlin Springs Road.

A $1.7 million contract for improved sidewalks and better traffic signals is slated to go before the Arlington County Board on Saturday. Under consideration are the intersections of S. Carlin Springs at 3rd Street S. and Arlington Blvd at N./S. George Mason Drive.

Construction of a new park near Amazon’s HQ2 as well as improvements to sidewalks and bike lanes in the area could begin soon.

Arlington Junction Park is projected to be complete at 1051 S. Eads Street in about 18 months, if the Arlington County Board approves a $2.5 million contract on Saturday. The Board will also consider $2.9 million for two projects to improve S. Eads Street between Army Navy Drive and 15th Street South.

On a recent afternoon along a stretch of N. Randolph Street in Ballston, a periodic thump-thump could be heard as drivers ran over a series of ruts in the road.

Some swerve or slow down substantially at an especially deep indentation midway down the 1100 block of N. Randolph Street. This is one of several dips between Washington Blvd and Fairfax Drive resulting from utility cuts during service line replacements.

Starting next month, weekday drivers and pedestrians like should plan for sporadic closures near the Shirlington Road bridge.

Kicking off in April and lasting through the summer, the sidewalk and westbound lane on S. Arlington Mill Drive will see intermittent closures on weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., due to the construction of a new $1.6 million pedestrian bridge.

Update at 5:50 p.m. — The gas leak has been stopped, the fire department said just after 5:30 p.m. Columbia Pike remains closed to traffic, however, according to traffic cameras.
