The business improvement districts (BIDs) along Arlington’s major commercial corridors are evolving in response to a changing mix of office and residential development in those areas.
“We are the boots on the ground” in a shifting environment, said Mary-Claire Burick, president of the Rosslyn BID, during an Oct. 30 panel discussion on economic-development issues sponsored by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.
Despite high office vacancy rates, several of Arlington’s major commercial corridors have some of the highest commercial real estate prices in Northern Virginia, new data shows.
Rosslyn, Ballston, National Landing and Clarendon/Courthouse/Virginia Square were the only sub-corridors of Northern Virginia with asking rates above $40 per square foot in third-quarter figures reported last week by Savills Research & Data Services.

The closure was announced at around 10:15 a.m. and appears to be associated with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington. The Ukrainian embassy is in Georgetown, near the entrance to the Key Bridge. The bridge was also closed for a few hours in August due to a Zelensky visit.
The Key Bridge was closed in both directions “for an unknown duration” at the start of the evening rush hour.
An Arlington Alert message about the closure was sent out around 4:45 p.m.
