Good Stuff Eatery Coming to Crystal City

The tipster who in March spotted Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn chatting up the manager of the Chick-fil-A in Crystal City was apparently on to something.

Washingtonian Magazine’s Best Bites Blog reports that Mendelsohn’s Good Stuff Eatery is expanding to Crystal City. The burger joint will be located in the middle of the Crystal Drive restaurant row and will include a special “milkshake station” where “customers can watch the custard-spinning process up close.”

The restaurant is aiming for a January opening.

I’ve been to the places on the Hill. Not bad food. Bit pricey though. I do know that the DC Health Dept did close down the We The Pizza place for a while.

Just so he pays his taxes that’s all that counts.

Finally a place where I can get a cheeseburger and fries in Arlington. Snarkiness aside, yes I will probably dine there.

  • CrystalMikey

Must be taking that storefront that has the fake ChickfilA “mural” on the windows.

    • Ali

And it’ll be closed on Sunday’s just like the real ChickfilA.

Holy crap I thought I was the only one that noticed the fake CFA logo!!!!

Saw it in 2008 and Googled “Chick-fil-a crystal city” several times to see if it was some sort of coded message. Nothing ever came up and then BAM – the Chick Fil A goes in in 2010. It’s still there, too. We must be on the same wavelength.

Great, another reason not to go to crystal city. I’m sure the tourists will love it.

  • NOVApologist

I wonder which “tier” Spike considers Crystal City?

  • JamesE

    I hate that hat!!

  • Al Gore

A January opening should be just in time for the last of the DOD employees being BRAC’d out of the area to try a burger.

  • charlie

good news. and for those of who have not ventured to Cap Hill, you are missing something. the energy and the food is great. and Spike is usually there working hard. curious to see how it will go here — the original is always the best.

  • Awesome!!

I for one can’t wait. I’ve been wondering where to get a burger around Arlington.

  • Louise

I went to his place on Capital Hill last month. REALLY good food.

“It is nice to be in a second-tier city where you can be a big fish in a small pond.” –Spike Mendelsohn. Guess what Spike. You are neither a big fish (Hell Burger and probably 2-4 more places blow your ‘non-cooked to order’ burgers away) and we are not a second-tier city. Get over yourself. I hope his attempt at Crystal City fails. Just because a place is made to look trendy and charges a lot of money, doesn’t mean you can’t go get the EXACT same burger at Five Guys.

    • Me too

we are not a second-tier city

And neither is he a big fish.

      • Michael H.

I had never heard of Spike Mendelsohn before the mini-controversy over his second-tier city remark. Then again, I don’t watch cooking channels.

If the food is good, then I might go there occasionally. If it’s overpriced and bad, then I’ll skip it.

  • The Great Hambino

I for one won’t be going here, that guy trashes the area and then wants to overchrage for a product I can get anywhere else. No thanks.

  • Louise

I don’t remember the prices being high–just checked the menu and the burgers are around $7. Is that expensive?

    • Ray

They’re twice that at Hell Burger.

      • Don’t Like Spike

But cooked to order and with amazing toppings at Hellburger.

More the merrier is the way I look at it. Since the addition of chick fil a, bozzelli’s, jimmy j and bw, cc has been popping.
