Update on 6/10/24 — Van Leeuwen will open on Tuesday, June 11, after all, a PR rep says. The shop will offer $1 scoops from 3-5 p.m. as originally planned
Earlier: Popular New York-based ice cream parlor chain Van Leeuwen is expected to open its doors soon in Crystal City.
Located at 269 19th Court S., the shop’s grand opening was originally scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, but a PR rep announced at 4 p.m. Friday that it was being pushed back “due to unforeseen circumstances.” It’s now unclear when exactly it will open.
“The team is working hard to open the doors to the community, and can’t wait to welcome everyone in soon,” the rep said. “We’ll share additional updates as soon as we’re able to.”
Previously, Van Leeuwen was set to offer $1 scoops from 3-5 p.m. as part of its grand opening festivities.
When it does open, customers will have 30 flavors to choose from at the Crystal City location, including vegan options.
This will be the company’s fourth D.C.-area location, following three locations in the District, in Georgetown, Adams Morgan and Union Market. Two other D.C. locations are in the works, so the Crystal City shop will remain the only one in Northern Virginia — for now.
After the grand opening, Van Leeuwen will be open daily from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Military personnel with a valid military ID will be eligible for a 15% discount.
