School supplies and financial donations can be exchanged for free chicken at all Nando’s Peri-Peri locations tomorrow (Thursday) to celebrate Mandela Day.
The South African fast casual chain will serve a free flame-grilled chicken leg or breast at any spice level to customers who donate at least one school supply item or make a financial donation between 4-7 p.m.
Nando’s is collecting the supplies for youth in need to commemorate Mandela Day. The chain’s Arlington locations are:
- Ballston (4401 Wilson Blvd)
- Pentagon City (1301 S. Joyce Street)
- Rosslyn (1800 N. Lynn Street)
The international holiday, occurring annually on July 18, honors the work of South African leader and anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela. The United Nations first established the holiday in 2009.
The day calls on people across the globe to “reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities,” according to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
“We hope that Nando’s fans everywhere will embrace this iconic day of giving,” Nando’s Chief Brand Officer Sepanta Bagherpour said in a press release. “So drop off school supplies for our local students in need and enjoy some delicious PERi-PERi flame-grilled chicken in the process.”
Supplies donated to Ballston, Rosslyn and Pentagon City Nando’s will be dropped off at Carlin Springs Elementary in Arlington’s Glencarlyn neighborhood, a Nando’s spokesman tells ARLnow.
