Asian fusion spot ‘Pi BBQ and Bar’ plans opening in Crystal City

A new Asian fusion restaurant with Korean barbecue is preparing to open in Crystal City.

Pi BBQ and Bar hopes to open by early March at 420 23rd Street S., near Restaurant Row, co-owner Scott Goodson told ARLnow.

A ‘unique blend’ of cuisines

  • The restaurant plans to offer a sit-down service and tableside Korean barbecue grilling.
  • “There is a style of Korean barbecue that exists in China — it’s kind of a unique blend of Korean and Japanese,” Goodson said. “So, it’s a little different than the average Korean barbecue place.”
  • Co-owner John Chen also owns Supreme Hot Pot on Columbia Pike.

It will open where Young Chow closed

  • The previous Chinese restaurant shuttered in February 2023.
  • Pi’s co-owners completed extensive renovations to bring the number of seats inside up to 88.
  • “We’re striving to have a top-level restaurant with all high-quality eats, sauce made in-house, and that kind of thing,” Goodson said.
