Burst pipe damages Arlington County Board room, causes meetings to relocate

Damages from a burst pipe at Arlington County’s government headquarters have caused several public meetings to relocate and reduced hours at Courthouse Library.

Flooding at 2100 Clarendon Blvd resulted in “extensive water damage to portions of multiple floors of the Bozman Government Center, including the Arlington County Board Room,” county spokesperson Ryan Hudson told ARLnow.

Numerous dehumidifiers were running inside the building today (Tuesday), and a crew could be seen cleaning the County Board room.

“The County continues to work with JBG Smith to properly determine the extent of damage, impacts to operations, and a timeline of repairs,” Hudson said. “At this time, we do not have a complete assessment of damage to the Bozman building.”

The pipe burst on the 11th floor, outside of the county’s leased space. Hudson directed further inquiries to property owner JBG Smith, which declined to comment on this story.

The flooding happened at some point over the weekend and the entire building was closed yesterday, resulting in an Arlington County Planning Commission meeting relocating yesterday evening. Several County Board meetings this week have also relocated to Central Library at 1015 N. Quincy Street.

The Permit Arlington center remains closed for repairs and Courthouse Library is closing early today “due to continued cleanup.”
