Grazie Grazie opens new sandwich shop tomorrow in Ballston

A popular D.C. destination for Italian subs is opening a Ballston location tomorrow (Friday).

Grazie Grazie, a Philadelphia-inspired Italian deli, is preparing to open its first Virginia location at 4121 Wilson Blvd, where Farmbird closed three years ago. The new shop’s menu features over a dozen sandwiches and seven signature pizzas.

Grazie Grazie sells cheesesteaks and subs

  • Sandwiches start at $15 and include the Caesar salad-stuffed “NYC Bodega” and the “Vodka Saucy,” with chicken, mozzarella and its namesake sauce.
  • Other highlights include a “Jersey Shore” salad with Genoa salami and “Philly fries” with shaved ribeye and sauteed onions.
  • For a limited time, the new Ballston location shop will offer a “Hot Rob” sandwich with chicken, spicy buffalo blue cheese sauce, pickled onion and lettuce.

It was featured in The Washington Post

  • In 2021, the Post praised one of the shop’s sandwiches as being among the best in the D.C. area. Since discontinued, the dish came with pork, provolone and broccoli rabe.
  • Grazie Grazie was also a RAMMY finalist in 2023 for the Hottest Sandwich Spot of the Year.
  • Owner Casey Patten co-founded Taylor Gourmet, which is now under new leadership. He also co-owns D.C. restaurants Grazie Nonna and Little Chicken.
