Layli Mediterranean appears to have closed amid redevelopment in Clarendon

Layli Mediterranean appears to have closed after less than a year and a half amid redevelopment plans in Clarendon.

The restaurant at 3033 Wilson Blvd is listed as “permanently closed” on Google. Dining reservations can no longer be made through Resy, online ordering via DoorDash has halted and there are no more chairs, tables or space heaters in the patio area.

Layli did not respond to calls during regular business hours. An inquiry sent to a partner involved in the restaurant was not returned.

The restaurant, which opened in June 2024 in the space previously occupied by Bar Ivy, had drawn mostly positive reviews for its Mediterranean menu with “both traditional and modern takes.”

Layli showcased “modern Lebanese cuisine as its foundation while weaving in traditional Greek and Turkish flavors,” co-owner Walid Zeytoun previously told ARLnow. It was also approved to host live entertainment.

In July 2024, about a month after the restaurant opened, Carr Properties filed an application to redevelop the 40-year-old building at 3033 Wilson Blvd and replace it with an eight-story, 309-unit residential building with 6,000 square feet of street-level retail space.

“The property will include market-leading amenities such as a co-working lounge perfect for residents who work from home, a modern fitness center, landscaped courtyard, pool deck, clubroom, and below-grade parking,” according to Carr Properties.

Layli was among a handful of retail tenants at the site.

The Arlington County Board unanimously approved the redevelopment project on May 10. Carr Properties estimates it will be completed by August 2027.
