Scolapasta opens in Ballston Quarter this weekend

After nearly two years, a build-your-own pasta restaurant plans to open in Ballston this weekend.

Scolapasta is on track to open in the food court of Ballston Quarter (4238 Wilson Blvd) at 3 p.m. on Sunday, owner Burak Temel told ARLnow.

The restaurant, which offers five kinds of pasta and six sauces — bolognese, arrabiata, pomodoro, pesto, cacio e pepe and white truffle — originally announced plans to open in the neighborhood back in February 2024.

Temel had initially intended to open at 4219 N. Fairfax Drive, the site of the former Pizza Roma near the Ballston Metro station. Plans shifted earlier this year, however.

“Ballston Quarter is a more vibrant, I’d say, diverse environment, with all with vendors from all over the world,” Temel said in May. “That’s the concept that they go for.”

Like its counterpart at Tysons Galleria, the new Scolapasta location will offer toppings including meatballs, chicken, burrata and mozzarella. Temel has called the fast-casual concept “the Chipotle of Italian food.”

“It’s kind of a no brainer, when you think about it,” he told ARLnow last year. “Pasta is healthy. It’s budget friendly, and it could be a great late-night food alternative to pizza, for example, or some of the other local places in D.C., like Surfside.”

The kiosk’s hours have yet to be announced, though Ballston Quarter itself is open from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. on weekdays, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturdays and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
