Another person was struck by a car at a Wilson Blvd intersection over the weekend

For the second time in less than a week, a person was struck and injured at an intersection along Wilson Blvd in Bluemont.

The latest happened Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Wilson Blvd and N. George Mason Drive, less than a mile from the scene of last week’s crash involving a cyclist at the intersection of Wilson and N. Lexington Street.

A witness tells ARLnow that the driver of a red sedan struck a man just before 4:30 p.m., sending him “flying through the air” before landing in the middle of the road near the bike lane.

“Bystanders immediately came over to help and the driver pulled over and remained on scene,” the witness said. “The man was writhing on the ground and was not able to get up. First responders arrived quickly because it happened right outside the fire station, and they loaded him onto a stretcher.”

The victim was taken via ambulance to the trauma center at nearby VHC, according to scanner traffic.

The driver has not been charged, Arlington County police tell ARLnow. The windshield of his Honda appeared to be smashed in after the crash, while a scooter could be seen underneath the front of the car.

Police say the man who was struck rode an e-scooter into the intersection against the light and was struck by a driver who had the right-of-way.

“The operator of the scooter was transported to an area hospital with injuries considered non-life threatening,” said ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage. “The driver of the vehicle remained on scene. The investigation indicates the driver had the right-of-way and was proceeding through a green light at the time of the crash. No citations were issued.”

Last Monday’s crash left a man who had been riding a bicycle nearly motionless in the middle of the intersection. Witnesses also quickly came to his aid, before medics arrived and rushed him to the hospital with significant traumatic but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police told ARLnow today that the driver in that incident has been cited.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a vehicle turned from Wilson Boulevard onto N. Lexington Street when they struck a bicyclist in the bike lane,” said Savage. “The bicyclist was transported to an area hospital with injuries considered non-life threatening. The driver remained on scene and was issued a citation for Failure to Yield the Right of Way.”

The Aug. 17 crash followed a pair of fatal pedestrian crashes along S. Glebe Road and Columbia Pike.
