A new restaurant serving Turkish sandwiches, wraps and pita dishes has opened in Rosslyn.
D.C.-based Capital Doner opened its second location last month at 1731 Wilson Blvd, across the street from H-B Woodlawn. The restaurant serves halal gyros and shawarma, plus falafel wraps and traditional Turkish desserts.
Capital Doner’s specialty is chicken and beef
- The restaurant’s namesake, Turkish doner, is a style of meat cooked on a rotisserie and cut off in thin slices.
- Capital Doner offers wrap and sandwich combo meals with chicken ($15.99) or beef ($17.99), served with fries and a drink.
- For dessert, it sells baklava and kadayif, a pastry soaked in syrup and topped with nuts.
It seats around 50 people
- Free parking is available at Capital Doner’s location in a Wilson Blvd strip mall.
- “We ultimately chose Arlington’s Rosslyn neighborhood because it’s a dynamic area where business professionals, families and an international community converge,” owner Gokhan Boltakke told ARLnow. “Rosslyn felt like the perfect fit for our second location.”
- The restaurant has bar-style seating and tables inside, plus a small patio area.
It was born out of a butcher shop
- Boltakke opened a butcher shop in Manassas in 2015, serving Turkish doner to customers on the weekends.
- “At first, it was just locals who came by, but soon people from all over the DMV area were driving long distances to taste our doner and buy our meats,” Boltakke said. “Many of them even started asking us to open a location closer to their neighborhood.”
- The original Capital Doner opened in Dupont Circle in 2021.
