New cupcake and ice cream shop opening soon in Falls Church

A new spot for cupcakes, ice cream and other sweet treats is preparing to open in Falls Church.

Lil’ Cakes & Creamery, a local chain, is hoping to open at 120 Founders Avenue by the end of August, a spokesperson told ARLnow. The shop specializes in gourmet cupcakes with flavors such as key lime pie and caramel macchiato, plus treats like milkshakes and cookie ice cream sandwiches.

“We are selling happiness in form of cupcakes, cookies, ice cream, push pops, cake jars, milkshakes, cake cups, tres leches and so much more,” the chain said in an Instagram post. “Your next dessert run just got a whole lot sweeter.”


Lil’ Cakes & Creamery’s calling card is its elaborate cupcake menu.

A Reese’s Peanut Butter option includes a chocolate cupcake stuffed and topped with peanut butter buttercream with a Reese’s cup sticking out of the top. Other unique offerings include Dubai chocolate with sweet kataifi, pistachio paste and vanilla-pistachio buttercream, and orange creamsicle with vanilla-orange buttercream.

A list of ice cream flavors for the new location is not available yet. An online menu lists a “Cake-N-Cream” ice cream cup, which combines cake and ice cream into one dessert, and a cupcake milkshake, where the cake is blended into the ice cream.

Lil’ Cakes & Creamery also sells fudgy brownies and fruit-flavored push pops at other stores, as well as baklava and “cake jars” filled with layers of cake and icing.

Its other stores also make dog-safe cupcakes and ice cream for customers’ furry friends.

The chain currently has seven other locations: five in Maryland and two in Alexandria and Sterling.

The new spot will be the latest addition to Founders Row, which began filling out in 2023 with Chasin’ Tails and Ellie Bird. The now year-old Paragon Theaters is a few addresses down from the planned Lil’ Cakes & Creamery.
