Privai Spa and Salon at the Westpost shopping center in Pentagon City appears to have closed its doors.

ARLnow received a tip about the spa (1101 S. Joyce Street) closing last week. The doors were locked during what should have been business hours when ARLnow stopped by this week, though there are no signs announcing the closure and the lights remained on.


A local nonprofit has formed a new partnership to help reduce military spouse unemployment.

The American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association (AAFMAA), a nonprofit military financial solutions provider headquartered at Arlington’s Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, is collaborating with the Department of Defense’s Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) to bring the military spouse unemployment rate down by connecting spouses with one of the 700 MSEP employers.


Columbia Pike Deli is officially open for business.

The new delicatessen at 2406 Columbia Pike celebrated its grand opening last week, taking over the space previously occupied by Rappahannock Coffee. The coffee shop, a fixture for two decades, closed last year when its owner decided to retire.

A small business owner may decide to sell due to shifting economic conditions, retirement, a desire to pursue other endeavors or diversify one’s assets, or to try to turn around the fortunes of a floundering business.


When one Harris Teeter shuts its doors, another one springs up.

At least that’s the case today (Tuesday), as the new Harris Teeter in Ballston is set to open its doors at 3 p.m. The store holding a “Taste of Teeter” sampling event until 7 p.m. to mark the grand opening.


A new Japanese restaurant in Ballston may open later this month.

Preparations for Kanji Izakaya have been underway at 4301 Fairfax Drive since at least last June. That’s when a permit application indicated that a new eatery was coming to the sizable former home of Willow restaurant, which closed in 2015.
