Expect showers and thunderstorms mainly after 3pm, with a partly sunny high of 89°F and south winds of 3-6 mph. Friday night features a 60% chance of precipitation, including likely showers and potential thunderstorms before 8pm, continuing intermittently until after 2am. The night will be mostly cloudy with a low of 71°F, southeast winds of 3-6 mph, and new rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, with higher amounts during thunderstorms. New developer takes over stalled project at Arlington Beer Garden site

After nearly two years of inactivity, a new developer has taken over a stalled redevelopment project in Clarendon.

Donohoe Companies, which got the greenlight to build a new apartment building and hotel at 3200 Wilson Blvd back in 2023, has backed out, a company spokesperson told ARLnow.

Proposed bike trail along Haycock Road wins support in Falls Church

A proposal to add a 10-foot-wide path for bicyclists along Haycock Road has won informal support from the Falls Church Planning Commission.

“It will be exciting if it happens,” commission chair Andrea Caumont said during a June 4 briefing on the plan.

Paragon Theaters opens in Falls Church tomorrow with discounted tickets

A new movie theater in Falls Church is opening its doors tomorrow (Friday).

The new Paragon Theaters at 112 Founders Avenue will offer $8 movie tickets now through June 30 to welcome its first guests. The location originally planned to open over Memorial Day weekend.

Arlington woman launches new air travel consumer advocacy group

An Arlington woman has founded a new consumer advocacy group seeking to improve affordability and transparency in the airline industry.

Jennifer Rykaczewski, a Madison Manor resident, founded Affordable Skies in December following five years in the airline industry. The new nonprofit lobbies for policies related to cost and safety, provides educational materials to consumers and collects data on air travel pricing and consumer preferences.

Green Valley civic leader awarded ‘ARLnow Cup’ for decades of service

Portia Clark, a Green Valley civic leader who has spent decades standing up for justice in Arlington, received the newly renamed ARLnow Cup this week.

The Arlington County Civic Federation presented the award, previously known as the GazetteLeader Cup, at its final meeting for the 2024-25 year on Tuesday. Organizers recognized Clark’s ongoing role in supporting Green Valley’s character and preserving its history.

Arlington Players kicks off 75th season with outdoor ‘Peanuts’ show

The Arlington Players has launched its 75th-anniversary season with a celebration of the beloved “Peanuts” characters, who are also marking their 75th year.

Weather conditions were accommodating for two of the opening weekend performances as the group brought the musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” outdoors to audiences at Lubber Run Amphitheater.
