If you haven’t noticed, it’s really windy outside — and that has prompted what we believe is the first Wind Advisory of the year for Arlington.
Forecasters caution that downed tree limbs and power outages are possible. Currently, no outages are being reported in Arlington by Dominion, but the power company is reporting nearly 3,600 customers without power in neighboring Fairfax County.
Welcome to Kami’s Korner, where we’ll take a deep dive into Arlington’s condominium market by focusing on what’s coming next. From emerging developments to shifting trends, this space will spotlight the opportunities and insights shaping the future of condo living in Arlington.
What defines luxury in housing? It’s perhaps the most overused word in the English language. I recently saw a sign for “Affordable Luxury Apartments” and smiled to myself. Arlington, particularly Rosslyn, with communities like Turnberry Tower, Pierce, and Gaslight Square, has achieved critical mass in luxury condominium options. The condo market in Arlington continues to get better, consumers demand more thoughtful design, and local product becomes more desirable. For new condominiums, luxury is really made up of two factors: price point of the offering (a reflection of location, unit finishes and quality of plan), and condo fees (amenities, level of service.)
Pricing is predominantly set by the location. A majority of value is determined by neighborhood desirability, socio-economics of its residents, quality of schools, convenience to employment, retail, transit, market factors, and social centers. Arlington has all of these in spades!
"I’m not sure what meme face to post about how I’m currently feeling towards the Arlington School Board. Ben Affleck at the Grammys or Marjorie Taylor Green at the State of the Union."
Being a school board member is a tough job, which perhaps explains why it can sometimes be difficult to find candidates who want to run for the position.
Nonetheless, elected officials in charge of steering a large public school system are not immune from criticism, no matter how thankless the job may be.
You’ll be able to save some Washingtons on Presidents Day thanks to parking meter enforcement taking a holiday.
Arlington County offices, schools, courts, libraries and community centers will be closed Monday. Trash and recycling collection will continue as normal and permit parking will continue to be enforced, but parking meter monitors are getting the day off.
Running the Army Ten Miler or the fall half marathon? We’re kicking off our fall training programs with a free training run, followed by an introduction to training, and a chance to ask some coaches questions about your own training. Run is free. We’ll chat after the run at post-run coffee. We will have two distances: 4 miles and 7 miles. We will have pacers running everything from a 7:30 mile to a 12:30 run-walk, so everyone will have someone to run with. No need to RSVP, just come out and run!
There is an unassuming pump station near Fort Ethan Allen Park in North Arlington that the county says is “a vital component” of its drinking water distribution system.
The Ethan Allen Pump Station, when needed, ensures proper water pressure for customers, says a spokesman for the Dept. of Environmental Services. But for several years, the Ethan Allen station has had a portable generator outside because the one inside is inoperable, according to a county report.

There’s no shortage of tourism and restaurant guides out there, but we decided to pose the question to ChatGPT, the AI chatbot, and request a daily itinerary.
