The westbound lanes of Lee Highway near N. Oak Street in Rosslyn are now closed, after a traffic light collapsed and fell on the roadway.
County police have now set up a detour in the area and are advising drivers to follow posted signs around the section of the road.
Heads up if you’re heading home to Arlington via the Key Bridge tonight — a vehicle fire has closed both lanes heading out of D.C.
D.C. police say some traffic is still flowing into the city, but are otherwise warning of big back-ups heading toward Rosslyn.
Expect some major traffic backups on I-395 starting this weekend, due to construction work set to run from Springfield through the D.C. line.
Starting tonight, two general purpose lanes will close on the highway from Friday nights through Monday mornings every weekend through Aug. 26.
Watch out for some delays along the S. Washington Blvd bridge near the Pentagon tonight (Thursday).
The Virginia Department of Transportation says workers will be shifting the two westbound lanes to left, closer to the middle of the road, from about 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. They’re advising drivers to avoid the area, near the Pentagon’s north parking lots, or prepare to encounter some backups.
(Updated at 3:25 p.m.) Demolition work is set to get started next week on the S. Clark Street overpass in Crystal City, and that will prompt a handful of traffic detours through the end of the month.
Workers will begin removing the elevated section of the road over 15th Street S. next Monday (July 16) and the demolition is set to run through July 26. The county doesn’t plan to use any explosives in this process, and will merely remove the overpass in sections.
Some downed wires have closed both lanes of Military Road in Donaldson Run.
County police say the wires are down along the 3000 block of the road, not far from Zachary Taylor Park and Taylor Elementary School.
Both lanes of Chain Bridge Road at N. Glebe Road are currently closed.
Arlington Police say a tree fell on power lines in the area, and they’re warning drivers near the D.C. limits to find another route.
The crash happened this afternoon in the southbound lanes of the parkway in Arlington near Donaldson Run. One person is being evaluated for potentially serious injuries.
The U.S. Park Police helicopter, Eagle 1, was called in to transport the patient, prompting the closure of the entire parkway, according to scanner traffic. Arlington County medics are also on scene.
The eastbound lanes of Wilson Blvd are closed approaching central Rosslyn due to a tractor trailer accident this morning.
Earlier this morning a large truck drove onto the sidewalk in front of the Commonwealth Tower office building at 1300 Wilson Blvd. Photos show the truck in the process of being removed by heavy duty towing crews.
Expect delays heading from D.C. into Virginia via the 14th Street Bridge due to a crash on southbound I-395.
The four-vehicle crash, involving a pickup truck and three other vehicles, happened near the exit to Route 1 and is currently blocking three middle lanes. Traffic is squeezing by on either side, trying to avoid debris in the roadway.
(Updated at 4 p.m.) A vehicle has overturned on the GW Parkway near the Roosevelt Bridge.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Initial reports suggest the vehicle crossed several lanes of traffic before running off the side of the southbound GW Parkway.
