Virginia Square’s newly renovated American Legion Post 139 plans to host its first-ever veterans art exhibit over Memorial Day weekend.

Highlighting art by Northern Virginia veterans, the gallery opening on Saturday, May 24 at 3445 Washington Blvd will “explore themes of service, conflict, healing and duty,” Commander Richard L. Rodriguez, who served in the Marines, Navy and Navy Reserve, told ARLnow.

The county has maintained its No. 4 spot in the 2025 Niche ranking of the nation’s most liveable neighborhoods. That’s the same spot it held in 2024, but is below its No. 2 ranking in 2023.

Tierra Encantada is preparing to open at 3804 Wilson Blvd, where Staples closed last February. It has a tentative opening date of May 19, Alexandria program director Angel Ricardez told ARLnow.

A six-story office building in Virginia Square could be converted into a 94-unit apartment development.

Site plans filed late last month by Gilbane Development Company call for an adaptive reuse project at 3601 Wilson Blvd. Instead of tearing down the existing building, built in 1999, Gilbane proposes to keep the outside largely intact but rebuild much of the interior as apartments.

An Arlington woman is facing several charges after a hit-and-run crash in the Virginia Square area.

The incident started around 9:15 a.m. this past Saturday. Archived traffic camera video (via SafetyVid) shows a car heading southbound on N. Quincy Street, past Arlington Central Library, before barrelling into an SUV stopped at the traffic light at Fairfax Drive.

A new cafe featuring Hawaiian coffees and breakfast items is set to open in Virginia Square next week.

Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii plans to open for business on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 3701 N. Fairfax Drive. The cafe has been in development since the fall and is the second Northern Virginia location by franchisees Michelle and Richard Lee.

Two men are facing allegations of assaulting first responders in separate incidents in Virginia Square and Pentagon City last week.

The first incident started around 4:30 p.m. Friday, a block away from the Virginia Square Metro station. A shoplifting suspect led officers on a brief foot chase, fled on a Metro train, exited at East Falls Church and then ran on the tracks before being taken into custody nearby, according to Arlington County police.
