(Updated at 1:10 p.m.) Arlington County — and much of the surrounding area — is under an Excessive Heat Warning today and Saturday, and an Excessive Heat Watch on Sunday.

Sweltering temperatures and high humidity will result in dangerous conditions for anyone spending time outside, forecasters say.

Hundreds Without Water Service Due to Burst Pipe

Some 600 homes and businesses along Lee Highway, north of Courthouse, are without water service this afternoon.

Officials say a water main break on the 2000 block of N. Adams Street has partially closed the road and knocked out water service to hundreds. Repairs on the 6-inch line are expected to be completed by 9 p.m.

Local Journalist Claims Victory on Jeopardy Debut

Arlington resident Roey Hadar, a 23-year-old journalist at WETA-TV in Shirlington, is a Jeopardy champion.

During last night’s episode of the long-running quiz show, which was originally taped in March, Hadar topped five-time champion Sam Kavanaugh, a teacher from Minneapolis, and Jennifer Abel, a graduate student from Vancouver, British Columbia. Hadar walked away with $23,600 in daily winnings, having correctly answered two pivotal Daily Double questions.

New Lyon Park Neighborhood Plan Approved — “The Arlington County Board today accepted the first update to historic Lyon Park’s Neighborhood Conservation plan since 1973. The update, spearheaded by the Lyon Park Citizens Association, seeks to address increased non-resident traffic and other challenges through 19 recommendations for improvements.” [Arlington County]

UPDATED: Severe Storms Rumble Through Arlington, Knock Out Power

Update at 10:40 p.m. — There are still 664 Dominion customers without power across various parts of Arlington, according to the power company.

Update at 6:05 p.m. — About 700 Dominion customers are reported to be without power in Arlington, mostly in residential north Arlington, following the storms. Nearly 35,000 are reported to be without power in Fairfax County, including in the McLean area.

SER Restaurant in Ballston, which was inundated by water coming through the ceiling during the Flash Flood Emergency, is planning to reopen at 5 p.m. today (Monday), co-owner Christiana Campos told ARLnow.
