Memorial Day Closures — “Arlington County Government offices & services are operating on modified schedules on Memorial Day… Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign. Meters are not enforced on holidays.” [Arlington County]

Local Immigration Cases — “On Aug. 5, 2022, ICE agents learned that Campos-Guzman was illegally present in the United States. Gov. Touts Va. Jobs –“ Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today that… Virginia’s nonfarm payroll employment edged up 500 over-the-month to 4,272,700, a 47,900 increase since April 2024… The labor force decreased by 7,540 to 4,579,104 as the number of unemployed residents increased by 6,305 to 151,942. Rain Alleviates Drought — “After 2 to 5 inches of rain fell last week, much of the southern half of the D.C. region is no longer in a drought, according to the federal government’s U.S. Drought Monitor… This week’s additional rain will probably further lessen the drought by the time next week’s Drought Monitor is released (next Thursday). The management office for the Fairlington Villages condo association caught fire Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters responded around 2 p.m. to a report of a building on fire at 3001 S. Abingdon Street, near Abingdon Elementary School in the Fairlington neighborhood.

Board Worried About Loss of Workers — “While Youngkin has said the federal job cuts are necessary for fiscal responsibility, and that the state will hire many displaced workers, Karantonis said that may not preserve Arlington’s highly trained workforce… ‘We’re losing the crème of the crème. Fracas Near Four Mile — “The three male victims were outside when the male suspect approached, engaged them in conversation and briefly walked away before returning and allegedly striking one of the victims. A man was carjacked in Courthouse over the weekend, by a pair of pistol-packing suspects.

It happened around 3 a.m. Saturday near the Taco Bell Cantina, on the 2000 block of Wilson Blvd. The man was inside his parked Toyota Corolla with the windows down when a male and a female suspect approached, drew guns, punched him in the face, and stole his car, according to police and scanner traffic.

Dump Truck Crash — “Multiple people sustained minor injuries in a collision involving three vehicles in Arlington on Monday morning. Minutes before 8 a.m., the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) responded to the report of a crash at S. Walter Reed Drive and S. Four Mile Run Drive. Investigators said a vehicle was traveling south in the northbound lanes of S. Walter Reed Drive when it struck a dump truck — causing the dump truck to hit another truck.” [DC News Now]
