More than 20 restaurants in Arlington are slated to participate in Metropolitan Washington Winter Restaurant Week when it returns next Monday.

Hosted biannually in the winter and summer by the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, the week features multi-course, prix-fixe menus at participating D.C. area restaurants. This season, it takes place from Monday, Jan. 19 through Sunday, Jan. 25.

A Northern Virginia-based cafe selling sandwiches, salads and smoothies has set its sights on Falls Church for its newest location and its first drive-thru.

Sweet Leaf Cafe is coming to 603 W. Broad Street, the former location of a drive-thru Smoothie King. According to the business, this is the first new Sweet Leaf to open in five years.

The forthcoming Grocery Outlet Bargain Market in Falls Church is targeting an opening date one month from now.

Grocery Outlet, the replacement for a shuttered small-format Target store at 500 S. Washington Street, plans to open on Feb. 12, the company announced in a press release today (Monday).

Abigail Spanberger is set to be sworn in as Virginia’s first female governor next week at an inauguration bookended by other events and festivities in Richmond.

The Democrat is scheduled to take the oath of office at noon on Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Virginia State Capitol Building, in the centerpiece of an inauguration weekend with the theme “United for Virginia’s Future.”

A Fairlington-area bakery’s sign advertising a conservative political club has left a bad taste for some local residents.

The sign posted in the window of Great Harvest Bread Company at 1711 Centre Plaza has attracted hundreds of comments on the Reddit page for Northern Virginia and the private Fairlington Appreciation Society Facebook group this week.
