A burger joint in Buckingham with freshly ground smash burgers and a knack for nostalgia is gaining traction in the community after opening late last year.

Jon’s Joint serves classic burger joint fare in a casual, eclectic dining room filled with pop culture references. Created by childhood friends Safa Farighi and Amaan Jan, the restaurant has racked up hundreds of positive reviews since opening at 250 N. Glebe Road, where Ravi Kabob 2 used to be.

But the story isn’t over for Brij Coffee owner Skyler Kelley, who opened the cafe in fall 2023 with the goal of using the business to combat homelessness.

Arlington homeowners have until next week to apply to get a free native tree or shrub this fall.

Applications for EcoAction Arlington’s biannual Tree Planting Program and Tree Canopy Equity Program close next Monday, June 23. The nonprofit plans to plant 200 trees and 50 shrubs across the county.

Anti-Trump protesters mobilized in force across Arlington today (Saturday) as part of nationwide “No Kings Day” demonstrations ahead of the military parade in D.C.

Waving signs, banners and American flags, they cheered from overpasses and chanted outside the Clarendon Metro station. An estimated 5,000 people lined long stretches of Langston Blvd from Rosslyn to Falls Church, in an attempt to form an enormous, 5.2-mile “human chain.”

Donohoe Companies, which got the greenlight to build a new apartment building and hotel at 3200 Wilson Blvd back in 2023, has backed out, a company spokesperson told ARLnow.

A new movie theater in Falls Church is opening its doors tomorrow (Friday).

The new Paragon Theaters at 112 Founders Avenue will offer $8 movie tickets now through June 30 to welcome its first guests. The location originally planned to open over Memorial Day weekend.

An Arlington woman has founded a new consumer advocacy group seeking to improve affordability and transparency in the airline industry.

Jennifer Rykaczewski, a Madison Manor resident, founded Affordable Skies in December following five years in the airline industry. The new nonprofit lobbies for policies related to cost and safety, provides educational materials to consumers and collects data on air travel pricing and consumer preferences.

The Arlington dining scene earned quite a bit of recognition in Northern Virginia Magazine’s new list of the region’s best food spots.

Ten restaurants with Arlington locations won their respective categories, including Best Bagel, Best Deli/Sandwich Shop and Best Crabs, in the “Best of NoVA 2025” list. This is in addition to nine Arlington restaurants named as runners-up.

Mexican flavors and a new moniker have arrived at a cafe near Courthouse following a change in ownership.

Business partners Jessica Cordova and Arturo Encarnacion took the reins of Mumu Cafe late last month. Now called “Cafecito,” the coffee shop at 1924 N. Uhle Street serves new beverages, lunch items and pastries sourced from local Mexican-American entrepreneurs.
