Arlington residents can now register to receive a free tree for their yards as part of an effort by the Department of Parks and Recreation to increase the county’s tree canopy.
Registration opened today (Tuesday) for young, slender trees known as “whips.” The whips are in two-gallon containers ranging from 2-4 feet in size.
(Updated at 11:30 a.m.) Beloved local watering hole Carpool is returning to Arlington after a more than four year absence.
A popular after-work and sports-watching spot, Carpool closed its Ballston-area location on the 4000 block of Fairfax Drive in 2017, to make way for what is now the 22-story J Sol apartment tower. After two decades in Arlington, the brand lived on in the Fair Lakes area of Fairfax County. But now it’s coming home.

Steve Dierkes and Gavin Andersen — co-owners of local lawn care business The Lawn Barbers — have dealt with snakes, poison ivy and swarms of cicadas when caring for the lawns of Arlington residents.
But they say the bugs and weeds were worth the experience of running a company together.
Although we’ve got a holiday weekend ahead of us, you can still find plenty of open houses in the area. These range from 6 BD/6.5 BA new construction homes to 1 BD/1 BA centrally located condos.

Throughout this fall, there could be a few new faces around Shirlington as high-intensity gym F45 and some other businesses plan to launch in the next few months.
The gym is scheduled to have its grand opening at 2800 S. Randolph Street on Saturday, Sept. 11, according to a press release, though staff working amid a torrential downpour earlier this week said the gym had a soft launch last Saturday.
An “immersive group gaming entertainment facility” is coming to Ballston Quarter.
That could mean something like an escape room, or virtual reality gaming experiences.

This past month, nearly 295 homes were sold across Arlington at a median sales price of $616,500, according to Homesnap. Additionally, there were 220 price changes, and homes spent an average of 76 days on the market.
