A new hub for the performing arts has opened its doors in Falls Church.
Longtime arts nonprofit Creative Cauldron cut the ribbon on its new location this past Thursday, Feb. 13 — the organization’s 24th anniversary — before debuting “Steel Magnolias,” the group’s first performance in the new space. The organization was previously located inside a smaller space in Pearson Square at 410 S. Maple Avenue.
Ongoing challenges for political candidates and elected officials of color were the topic of a recent discussion with several local leaders.
Representatives of minority groups who make it onto the ballot and into office too often are looked on as “representational symbols,” said Christian Dorsey, a former two-term Arlington County Board member.

More than 3,000 homes and businesses were without power Sunday evening amid continued strong winds.
As of 5:30 p.m., Dominion reported 3,087 customers without power in Arlington County. That number had been growing as gusty winds fell trees and branches around the area.

Police are on scene of a shooting at a Crystal City apartment building.
Two people were wounded and taken to local hospitals, including a teen boy with critical injuries, according to Arlington County police. The shooting happened during a party at the Crystal Towers Apartments at 1600 S. Eads Street, according to initial reports, prompting numerous people to flee.

The organization aims for an expansive, inclusive, record-setting 2025 when competition begins later in the year.
After losing two of its last three matches, the Yorktown High School ice-hockey club team routed Oakton, 11-3, in its final regular-season action.
Oakton put a scare into Yorktown early at Reston SkateQuest, scoring just 15 seconds into the match to take a 1-0 lead.
Bruce Hanson at first was nervous about being the center of attention during a recent ceremony recognizing his 40 years as Yorktown High School’s head football coach.
But by the end of the Saturday (Feb. 8) event at the Knights of Columbus in Arlington, just around the corner from Yorktown, Hanson’s emotions had changed. He was happy about all the memories that flowed.
In coming weeks, the four Arlington teams competing during the summer’s popular Northern Virginia Swimming League will learn their placements for 2025.
The seeding meeting to determine the setups of the league’s 17 divisions is scheduled for Sunday, March 2 at Key Middle School in Springfield. Representatives from each of the league’s 102 teams will be present to discuss and arrange the divisions, beginning at 2 p.m.
