Crystal City’s iconic Restaurant Row soon might lend its name to a nearby park.
Some members of the Arlington Park and Recreation Commission seemed to informally gravitate to the name, despite staff proposing several alternatives.
County Transportation Plan Update — “This month, Arlington County is launching an 18-month planning process to refresh Arlington’s Transportation Plan and reestablish priorities to guide transportation investments for the next 20 years. The process is being promoted as a campaign called Arlington’s Transportation Future, and the refreshed plan will be brought to the County Board for adoption mid-2026.” [Arlington County]
New Store at Pentagon City Mall — Hi Level Fashion, a men’s clothing retailer, has opened at Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, offering apparel and accessories from brands like G-Star, Lacoste, and Psycho Bunny. Marymount Sets Anniversary Schedule — Marymount University has published a schedule of events for 2025 to mark the 75th anniversary of its founding. The institution opened in 1950 as a junior women’s college with an initial class of 13. [Marymount University]
Greens Support Rives for School Board — The Arlington Green Party has endorsed Forward Party candidate James “Vell” Rives IV for School Board in the Nov. 5 election. “If elected, Rives would be the only non-Democrat on the board and would widen experience on the School Board,” the party said in a statement. —Scott McCaffrey

Ever Wanted to Duel with a Sword or Hit a Bullseye? Fall Registration Is Open at Nova Fencing & Arch
There’s something a little bit magical about picking up a foil for the first time — or drawing back a bow and watching your arrow fly true. It’s why fencing and archery have such a hold on kids and adults alike: real focus, real skill, and a thrill you don’t get from the usual sports lineup.
This fall, Nova Fencing & Archery Club in Bailey’s Crossroads is opening registration for both, with beginner classes for every age starting the week of September 12th. Fencing welcomes ages 7 to 12 and teens and adults 13 and up. Explore Archery, coached by USA Archery certified instructors, welcomes ages 8 to 12 and meets Tuesdays or Saturdays. And for our youngest fencers, ages 4 to 6, ABC’s of Fencing meets on Saturdays. All classes run eight sessions for $195, equipment provided, no experience needed — yes, even for grown-ups who’ve never held a sword or a bow before.
Bishop O’Connell High School graduate Molly Weithman already is making a strong impact in college cross country.
The freshman runner for the College of William and Mary’s Division I women’s team finished ninth in one of her first collegiate races. Her place helped the team win a championship with a low 19 points Oct. 5 at the Pirate Invitational at East Carolina University.

For Emmett Engelhardt, the cross country season keeps getting better and better.
The high-school campaign is a little more than a month old and the Washington-Liberty Generals senior runner already has won three big races, the latest Oct. 5 at the Octoberfest Invitational on the Great Meadow course in The Plains.
There will be a several-week delay, pushing the matter into November, before Falls Church officials return to the issue of accessory-dwelling units.
The request to hold off for an additional two weeks was made by city staff as they work through potential zoning language before heading to the City Council chambers.
Arlington’s embrace of a more urban future was among the topics of discussion as local candidates recently competed in the political equivalent of speed-dating.
Hosted Oct. 6 by the League of Women Voters of Arlington & Alexandria City, the event gave voters the chance to spend 15 minutes at the table with each aspirant for County Board and School Board posts. When time was called, candidates stayed put and attendees rotated to the next table over the course of two hours.
Arlington has released the final design for a proposed overhaul of Gateway Park, featuring expanded dog parks, more tree cover and a new bridge.
Other elements include two play areas, “social groves” surrounded by natural landscaping and a large lawn with an event pavilion.
