Arlington retail centers may soon be able to play movies and commercial messaging on large outdoor screens.

A proposed zoning ordinance change, unanimously recommended by Arlington’s Planning Commission on Wednesday, would affect six commercial areas in Pentagon City, Clarendon, Ballston and Shirlington. It’s part of an effort to encourage “gathering and socializing” and allow for “interesting and authentic entertainment and experiences” in Arlington’s retail centers, per a county report.

After more than two years of anticipation, Wagamama appears to be preparing to open its Clarendon outpost.

Holes in the brown paper covering the windows reveal a mostly complete interior, with elaborate lighting fixtures and glowing point-of-sale system screens. A large “WAGAMAMA” sign can also be seen near the front entrance, ready to mount on the exterior.

Located at 1148 N. Irving Street, next door to the recently shuttered Jimmy John’s, Aura Chiropractic is expected to hold its first appointments today (Tuesday), according the clinic’s website.

Four Virginia men are facing drug and other charges after a verbal dispute between one of the men and a woman in Arlington.

The incident happened Thursday evening in the Green Valley neighborhood. Police were called after the man “allegedly lifted his shirt, exposing what appeared to be a firearm and made threatening statements.”

The Arlington Festival of the Arts returns to Clarendon this weekend to celebrate a decade of art showcases, which will prompt road closures.

Held annually at the corner of N. Highland Street and Washington Blvd, the festival is set to take place this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 125 local, national, and international artists will converge at this free, two-day event to exhibit a variety of artworks, ranging from original paintings and custom jewelry to mixed media and life-sized sculptures.

A Clarendon yoga studio is closing its doors as its owner seeks a new location with an additional focus on fitness.

The Suhka Center, which Yelp lists as the number one Black-owned yoga studio in the D.C. area, will be leaving 1016 N. Garfield Street on Friday. Co-founder Damion Moss said high rent and a dissolved partnership with a former business partner are driving him to look elsewhere.

After a year of delays, plans to open a well-regarded Mediterranean restaurant in a former Clarendon music venue appear to have fizzled.

The space that the Fairfax-based Kirby Club identified for a second location back in 2022 is now listed as “available” on The Crossing Clarendon’s retail leasing page.
