The Arlington County Police Department has rolled out a new crime dashboard with up-to-date data on offenses and arrests.

The data hub, which went live today (Friday), includes interactive maps of offense locations, which users can sort by neighborhood, offense category, timeframe and police beat. It also delineates crime data by month and includes granular breakdowns of arrests based on offense codes and date.

While Fairfax County recently rolled out a new prosecution dashboard with detailed breakdowns of the county’s criminal caseload, Arlington data tracking lags behind.

The new Case Overview Dashboard from the Office of the Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney contains a wealth of information on the county’s criminal cases, with data on the age, race and gender of defendants as well as stats on specific charges.

An Arlington Circuit Court judge has delayed the sentencing of a man who admitted to shooting at police officers during a 2022 car chase through Arlington and Fairfax counties.

Ricardo Singleton must first undergo an evaluation through the state’s mental health assistance program, Judge Daniel S. Fiore II ruled Friday, before being sentenced on Aug. 16.

A Maryland man has been sentenced to 45 years behind bars after pushing a woman out of a moving vehicle near Ballston, causing severe injuries.

Willie James Clements Jr., 61, was sentenced to 35 years for aggravated malicious wounding, as well as the maximum 10 years for hit-and-run, in Arlington County Circuit Court last week.

Don’t look now but carjackings have become relatively rare in Arlington over the past few months.

There were four carjackings in Arlington during the first half of 2024, according to Arlington County police. That’s a third of the 2023 total during the same time period.

A man arrested last year in Pentagon City pleaded guilty Friday to two drug charges, including possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.

Willie Gene Thorne, 29, of D.C., also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in a drug trafficking crime, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Arlington County saw a rise in total crime from 2022 to 2023, including a nearly 20% increase in drug-related crimes, according to the police department’s new annual report.

The county tallied 474 instances of the production, distribution or use of illegal narcotics in 2023, up from the 2022 total of 396. Those were the “primary driver” in an increased rate of “crimes against society,” according to the report.

A parents association is calling for stronger guardrails in programs involving children following an extended day worker’s arrest for allegedly showing porn to kids.

The Arlington County Council of PTAs (CCPTA) said Arlington Public Schools should double down on systems of accountability after the 18-year-old suspect, who worked in an after-school program at Abingdon Elementary School in Fairlington, was arrested on charges of assault and battery and possession of child pornography.
