Four beach volleyball courts are now open in Crystal City as part of Club Volo National Landing, a new temporary recreational site at 223 23rd Street S.

The site is the result of an partnership between developer JBG Smith and Baltimore-based social sports company Volo Sports. The developer is set to construct high rise apartment buildings at the address, but has delayed construction until costs and interest rates settle.

Dolan Uyghur is planning to open its fourth D.C.-area location in the neighborhood in November, a representative of the restaurant confirmed to ARLnow.

A large, aging office building in Crystal City is getting some significant upgrades.

JBG Smith announced last week that its 11-story building at 2011 Crystal Drive would be getting $40 million facelift. The “repositioning” will include exterior facade changes, communal outdoor spaces, a new meeting and conference facility with a cocktail bar, and upgrades to the ground floor.

Pride Month will soon be coming to a close but a number of local events are still on the calendar, highlighted by the third-annual Arlington Pride Festival.

The Arlington Pride Drag Pageant will take place tonight (Friday), allowing local entertainers to compete for only the second-ever crown. Held at Clarendon Ballroom, doors will open at 7 p.m. The pageant is scheduled to wrap around 10 p.m., with a rooftop after party to follow.

Arlington County police are investigating gunfire along Route 1 in the Crystal City area this afternoon.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. on Route 1 near the airport ramps. Initial reports suggest that a driver in a late model Acura sedan fired at least two shots at another motorist, who was driving a pickup truck.

Trader Joe’s once appeared to be coming to Crystal City. But that effort seems to have quietly come to an end.

A little over a year ago, a construction permit application filed for 2450 Crystal Drive explicitly said that the grocer was coming to the property. In March, a liquor license application confirmed the same.

Two rainbow murals were installed in Crystal City last week, just in time for Pride Month.

Placed along 23rd Street S., one roadway mural runs along the interior perimeter of the intersection with S. Fern Street. The other borders the crosswalk at S. Eads Street.

A plan to have a developer pay Arlington County $5.8 million instead of building a planned library in Crystal City could get final approval this weekend.

Citing “site, operating, and capital budget constraints,” a county report calls for accepting a proposal “to support library operations elsewhere” by receiving payments from JBG Smith in installments over the next six years.

Arlington is poised to accept $18 million in funding for a pedestrian bridge connecting Crystal City to Reagan National Airport.

A funding allocation from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority is slated for consideration at an Arlington County Board meeting this Saturday. Construction on the project, dubbed the CC2DCA multimodal connection, is expected to begin in Fiscal Year 2028.

The company managing a residential space in a Crystal City office building has filed for bankruptcy.

Common Living — the company in charge of the Common co-living space at 2221 S. Clark Street — filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Friday, indicating plans to liquidate its assets. All company operations have been suspended, according to a news release.
