Falls Church City Council members appear ready and eager to give the 6600 and 6700 blocks of Wilson Boulevard the honorary name “Saigon Blvd.”
The new name, which would not impact Postal Service addresses or public-safety responses, will pay tribute to those who came to the local area from South Vietnam after that country’s fall to North Vietnamese forces in 1975.
There will be a several-week delay, pushing the matter into November, before Falls Church officials return to the issue of accessory-dwelling units.
The request to hold off for an additional two weeks was made by city staff as they work through potential zoning language before heading to the City Council chambers.
Forty years since its founding, the Eden Center remains a community pillar of Falls Church and thriving destination for visitors from throughout the D.C. area and beyond.
Known for its immigrant-run restaurants and grocery stores, the expansive commercial center — situated just over the Arlington border on the 6700 block of Wilson Blvd — is a landmark of Northern Virginia’s Vietnamese community.
(Updated at 1:45 p.m.) Falls Church police and Arlington medics responded to a stabbing at the Eden Center just before noon today.
One person was stabbed in the back in the rear of the shopping center, according to initial reports, and the suspect is currently at large. The circumstances leading to the stabbing, where exactly it took place in the complex, and the condition of the victim are unclear.

A man was shot and killed outside a nightclub in the Eden Center just after midnight this morning.
Falls Church police say the shooting happened outside Diva Lounge, which is located at 6763 Wilson Blvd, in the rear of the shopping center near Planet Fitness.
