The National Weather Service has issued severe thunderstorm and flood watches for Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax County, D.C. and surrounding areas.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued just before 2:30 p.m. and is in effect until 10 p.m. Storms today may pack damaging winds, frequent lightning, and hail, forecasters say.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch and a Flood Watch have been issued for Arlington and much of the D.C. area for the second and third day in a row, respectively, as the region braces for strong storms.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect through 9 p.m.

Heavy rainfall from thunderstorms could produce 1 to 2 inches of rain in a short period, with some areas potentially seeing 3 to 5 inches where storms train over the same locations.
A Flood Warning has been issued, replacing the earlier Flash Flood Warning.

After a week of hot and humid weather, heavy rain is on the way to cool things down a bit.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Arlington and the immediate D.C. area. It will be in effect from 6 p.m. tonight through 2 a.m. Saturday.
The County Board is considering purchasing two single-family homes in Arlington: one for open space, the other for stormwater management.
Board members on Saturday are expected to consider purchasing one property at 1922 N. Upton Street for $1.1 million, and another at 6915 29th Street N. for $218,536.
Slow-moving downpours could cause flooding in Arlington and the D.C. area Friday night.

Flooding at 2100 Clarendon Blvd resulted in “extensive water damage to portions of multiple floors of the Bozman Government Center, including the Arlington County Board Room,” county spokesperson Ryan Hudson told ARLnow.
A burst pipe has flooded and damaged Arlington County’s government headquarters in Courthouse.
The building at 2100 Clarendon Blvd is closed today and county government functions based there have been shifted to virtual operations, the county said.
Arlington property owners next year likely will have a number of new ways to claim rebates against the government’s new stormwater fees.
