Some friendly carb competition appears to be coming to Ballston as a second bagel spot has announced plans to open on Glebe Road.

Bagel Uprising, based in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood, plans to open its second location at 901 N. Glebe Road in May, co-founder Chad Breckinridge told ARLnow. That’s just half a mile from D.C.-based bagel chain Call Your Mother’s planned location at 4000 Wilson Blvd.

One of the D.C. area’s most popular bagel brands is coming to Ballston.

Call Your Mother just announced plans to open at 4000 Wilson Blvd — the former home of a Starbucks location that closed last year after only two years in business. A specific opening date has not yet been announced for the shop, though it is expected “soon-ish,” according to Call Your Mother’s website.

It will take a little longer than expected for two “exploration-inspired” businesses to open their doors in Crystal City.

As renovations continue at 2011 Crystal Drive, Altitude Wine Bar and Constellation cafe and gourmet market have pushed back their expected openings to early this spring, a spokesperson for developer Episcope Hospitality told ARLnow.

Lacoste opened this week on the first floor of the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, next to Nordstrom. The store sells clothing for men, women and children — including the brand’s popular polos — as well as footwear, bags and accessories.

Cup of Bliss, a Vietnamese-inspired coffee shop, has finalized a lease at 2439 N. Harrison Street, a spokesperson for property manager AJ Dwoskin & Associates announced.

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market intends to open its doors at 500 S. Washington Street at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, offering gift cards worth varying amounts to the first 100 customers. The top prize is $500.

Sweet Leaf Cafe is coming to 603 W. Broad Street, the former location of a drive-thru Smoothie King. According to the business, this is the first new Sweet Leaf to open in five years.
