Sycamore Street, Carlin Springs Projects Approved — At its Saturday meeting, the Arlington County Board approved a pair of major road projects. One, intended to improve pedestrian safety along N. Sycamore Street in the Williamsburg neighborhood, “will reduce travel lanes from four lanes to two lanes by adding raised medians planted with trees and grass,” at a cost of $1.4 million. The other will replace the Carlin Springs Road Bridge over North George Mason Drive at a cost of $7 million. [Arlington County, Arlington County]

Fox 5 Zip Trip Comes to Arlington — Fox 5 brought its “Zip Trip” morning news segment to Pentagon Row in Arlington on Friday, highlighting a variety of local organizations, businesses and leaders. Among those making an appearance on live local TV: Bayou Bakery, Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters, Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, District Taco, Lebanese Taverna, the Arlington County Fire Department and County Board member Katie Cristol. ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk Coming to Pentagon Row

An organization that’s working to end prostate cancer will hold a charity fun run and walk on Father’s Day in Pentagon Row.

Participants can take part in a 5K run/walk, a one-mile walk or a “Kid’s Superhero Dash for Dad” on Sunday, June 18 at 8:15 a.m. Snooze for Dudes is for those who cannot attend the race but still would like to contribute.

Just like burgers, cupcakes, and froyo before it, there is clearly a new business boom in progress in Arlington. This latest business trend, at least, has the promise of subtracting pounds rather than adding them.

Boutique fitness studios have been popping up all around Arlington lately, and as if to reinforce the point, the two latest entrants have very similar names: E60 and F45.

UPDATED: Police Seek Man Missing From Pentagon City Mall

Earlier: Arlington police are searching for a man who went missing from the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City earlier this afternoon.

Paul Lowe, 41, was last seen at the mall at around 2 p.m. According to police, he is described as a light skinned black male, approximately 6-foot-2 with a slim build, bald with a small goatee. He was last seen wearing a blue plaid shirt with blue jeans. Lowe is described as having the mental capacity of a 10-year-old.

Hello Kitty Truck to Visit Pentagon Row on Saturday

The truck will park near the Designer Shoe Warehouse at 1301 S. Joyce Street from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on April 8.

It will offer candy and Hello Kitty-branded promotional items like mugs, t-shirts and headbands and water bottles with bows on.

‘A Deli’ Now Open on Pentagon Row

There’s a new sandwich and salad spot on Pentagon Row.

“A Deli” opened recently at 1301 S. Joyce Street, in the former Subway storefront, next to Rite Aid. The interior is relatively spacious, for a deli, and includes a number of tables for dining in and a TV for those in line, in addition to the large deli counter.

‘Great Clips’ Salon Coming to Pentagon Row

Update on 1/5/17 — “Barring construction delays (fingers crossed) we plan to open on Saturday 1/28,” co-owner Will Bartlett tells ARLnow.com. “For the first month we will be offering $9.99 haircuts to all customers as part of our grand opening. After that first month the regular adult haircut price will be $19 (men and women) and seniors (65+), children (10 and under) and active duty military (with an ID) will be charged $17.”

A Great Clips salon will be opening in a vacant retail space on Pentagon Row, near the Harris Teeter.

Former LA Fitness at Pentagon Row Now Being Marketed as Office Space

The former LA Fitness space at Pentagon Row, vacant for the past year and a half, is now being marketed as office space.

The space, at 1201 S. Joyce Street, is located on the second level of Pentagon Row, overlooking the shopping center’s open-air plaza (which is currently occupied by an ice skating rink).

Noodles & Co. Has Closed on Pentagon Row

Struggling fast-casual restaurant chain Noodles & Co. has closed its location at the Pentagon Row shopping center (1201 S. Joyce Street).

The eatery closed last month after 14 years in business. The restaurant’s exterior sign has since been removed and its interior has been largely cleared out.

Pentagon Row Skating Rink Now Open

The ice skating rink at Pentagon Row (1101 S. Joyce Street) opened this week.

The rink hosted its first skaters Tuesday, according to its Facebook page. A sure sign of the season, the rink — which was expanded in 2013 — generally opens around mid-fall and closes in mid-to-late March.
