No athlete was busier for the Washington-Liberty Generals than Camille Walker during the recent Gainesville Cardinal Classic track-and-field meet.
The senior’s top finish in the multiple-team meet at Gainesville High School was a 17th in the girls discus. She also placed 18th in the triple jump, 19th in the 100 hurdles, 22nd in the shot put and 43rd in the 100 dash.
The combination of a new head coach and an experienced squad, including 13 seniors, is working well so far this spring for the Washington-Liberty Generals girls soccer team.
The high-school team has a 7-1 overall record through this week, and is 2-0 in the Liberty District. The Generals have five shutouts in eight matches and have allowed only three goals.
The high-school sports schedule for Arlington’s three public high schools is back in full swing after spring break, with a full slate of competition.
The regular seasons last only a couple of more weeks, followed by the start of postseason action.
With varying degrees of success, the Wakefield Warriors, Washington-Liberty Generals and Yorktown Patriots participated in different spring-break baseball tournaments in recent days.
Yorktown (7-5) had the best record of the three high-school teams, finishing 3-2 in the competition at Patriot Park in Fairfax.

Thomas Lee planned, designed, organized, oversaw and helped build the landing area of the shot-put pit for the school’s girls and boys track-and-field teams. Lee is a member of the W-L boys squad as a triple-jumper and sprinter.
The Bishop O’Connell Knights and Washington-Liberty Generals had no individual winners but enjoyed some top finishes at the PR Northern Virginia Invitational track-and-field competition held at South Lakes High School.
The meet included many of the top girls and boys athletes throughout the area.
Spring break is coming to an end for Arlington’s three public high schools, with the sports schedules back in full swing next week beginning with events Tuesday, April 22.
Some baseball and softball teams played tournament games over spring break, but many other teams, like lacrosse and soccer, did not play.
In recent Liberty District high-school baseball games between Arlington rivals, the host Wakefield Warriors topped the Washington-Liberty Generals, 8-5, then the Yorktown Patriots downed visiting Wakefield, 9-3.
For Wakefield (2-4, 2-3) against W-L, Cort Bringham was the standout. On the mound, the right-hander worked 6 1/3 innings of two-hit ball (one earned run), fanned five and walked two to get the win. With the bat, Bringham had three hits, with a double, and drove in three runs.
Gabriela Netwall winning multiple girls events and Ian Crowley doing the same for the boys helped the two host Washington-Liberty Generals teams win the annual Arlington County outdoor track-and-field meets.
The girls won with 200 points and the boys with 191. Both Wakefield Warriors squads placed second in the high-school meet.
With a 6-2 record through eight boys lacrosse matches, the Washington-Liberty Generals are enjoying one of their best starts in program history.
Among the high-school team’s victories were a 11-7 win over private-school Sidwell Friends along with triumphs over Northern Virginia public-school squads West Springfield, 13-8, Marshall, 16-3, Falls Church, 16-5, and South County, 6-3.
A number of seniors who played for Arlington high-school football teams this past fall have made college commitments.
Among them is Yorktown Patriots’ quarterback Drew Morgan. He will play at Division III Kenyon College.

George Porcha, 54, was recently acquitted of two sex crime charges involving a former girls basketball player about 25 years ago. He still faces other charges, including carnal knowledge of a 13 to 15-year-old, for alleged acts involving a second player.
