THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VIRGINIA HAS ISSUED A
Arlington and the rest of the D.C. area is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.
A line of storms is expected to reach the area around 5 p.m. The watch is in effect until 10 p.m.
The store will close this coming Sunday, said owner Eric Kim. He plans to open a new store called Swiss Time in the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City five days later on Friday, Oct. 16.
Kim changed the name of the store because the storefront at new location is much more visible to customers walking in the mall, and he wanted to emphasize the Swiss brands of watches he sells, he said.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Arlington and the rest of the D.C. region, starting Friday morning. More watches and warnings are expected to be issued as Hurricane Joaquin nears, on the back of the nor’easter.

Forecasters say thunderstorms with the potential for damaging wind and hail will spread across the area this afternoon and evening.
Dominion Virginia Power is reporting 4,245 customers without power in Arlington — almost 5 percent of all customers in the county. Power outages have been reported in Pentagon City, in Courthouse near I-66 and in the Virginia Square area.
The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City mall was evacuated during the storm due to a power outage there. Scanner reports suggest firefighters rescued some customers from stuck elevators. The Pentagon Centre mall was also reported to be without power.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VIRGINIA HAS ISSUED A
The National Weather Service says much of the eastern United States is at risk for damaging storms today. In the D.C. area, the risk is a bit lower than points south and west.
“There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening,” NWS said in a hazardous weather outlook. “Damaging wind gusts will be the primary concern.”
The 141st running of the Kentucky Derby will start around 6:30 p.m., and Circa at Clarendon (3010 Clarendon Blvd) is hosting Arlington’s watch party. Fancy hats are encouraged and mint juleps will be served for $7.
Welterweight champions Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao — long considered the two biggest names in boxing, but who have never fought before — will face off later that night (sometime around midnight, in all likelihood). The pay-per-view cost to view the fight is $99, which means bars in the area will ask viewers for cover charges to watch the most anticipated fight in years in their businesses.
Forecasters say severe storms are likely late this afternoon and this evening and that an isolated tornado is possible.
