It’s Friday, which means the weekend is here. National Weather Service is predicting a sunny weekend, with highs in the upper 80s for both weekends.
The Arlington County Fair will be open from until 11 p.m. tonight, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. tomorrow and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday. There will be concerts throughout the weekend at the fair.
It looks like the rain is gone, at least until next Thursday, making this weekend a great time to go celebrate the start of the last full month of summer.
One way to enjoy the sunshine might be a walk on the Donaldson Run trail now the water advisory has been lifted.
If you’re planning to spend some of the sunshine in Lacey Woods Park, you’ll need to find a different way than N. George Mason Drive. The county is reporting that the road will be closed between 10th Street N. and Washington Boulevard from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Saturday’s cool evening low of 72 degrees will be great for the runners participating in the Twilighter 5k in Crystal City. The race kicks off at 8:30 p.m. and follows a route along Crystal Drive and Long Bridge Drive.
It’s Independence Day weekend and Arlington has traditions aplenty — community parades, cookouts and fireworks viewing, to name a few. Let’s just hope that it doesn’t rain.

If you’d rather focus on recent history, like say the legalization of gay marriage throughout the entire country, then you’ll have an opportunity for that too; the Arlington Gay and Lesbian Alliance is hosting a Pride Month Social this Sunday evening from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Freddie’s Beach Bar & Restaurant (555 23rd Street S.).
Finally some housekeeping. Remember, the “Freedom Four” race is going down on Sunday, so sections of N. Courthouse Road, N. Rhodes Street and Wilson Boulevard will be closed that morning. Parking will be limited in the area, but things should start opening up after 10:30 a.m.
It’s Friday, which means Father’s Day is two days away.
There are plenty of opportunities to celebrate dad in Arlington, with the Columbia Pikes Blues Festival on Saturday and the Zero Prostate Cancer run on Sunday.
Put on sunscreen and make your way to the main stage area to watch pro and amateur teams compete on one of the most challenging courses in the United States.
Don’t think competitive cycling sounds that tough or action-filled? Maybe this caught-on-video crash from the 2013 race in Crystal City will change your mind.
We were at the press conference but ultimately did not write an article about it, as there was little that was new from when we initially reported the story last Friday. One thing worth seeing, however: the photo included here, which shows the extent of the deterioration under the historic, 83-year-old span.

The weekend is finally here, which means three days of grilling, relaxing, being active outdoors, grumbling about motorcycle noise, spending time with friends and family, watching sports and, most importantly, remembering those who gave their lives in the service of our country.
