An unresponsive driver was pulled from an SUV after a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Ballston.

The crash happened shortly before 3:15 p.m. in front of the apartment building at 4000 Wilson Blvd.

Public Hearing Set for Deer-Culling Plan — Arlington County Board members voted 5-0 Saturday to advertise for a Nov. 16 public hearing zoning changes needed to bring professional sharpshooters to the county starting the winter of 2025-26 to address deer overpopulation. –Scott McCaffrey

Towing Changes Hearing Set for November — Despite concerns voiced by the chair of the Trespass Towing Advisory Board and several business groups, Arlington County Board members on Saturday set a Nov. 16 public hearing on a wide array of changes to the county’s towing regulations. –Scott McCaffrey

Boeing Strike May Be Ending — “Boeing and its machinists’ union have reached a new contract proposal, the union said Saturday, outlining a deal that could end a more than month-long strike that has hobbled the manufacturers’ aircraft  production. The ratification vote is set for Wednesday.” [CNBC]

Alleged Shoe Thief Nabbed at Pentagon — From Dave Statter: “Police gather up about 20 pairs of shoes and arrest a man officers say was with that large haul at the Pentagon Transit Center last night. @PFPAOfficial officers spotted the man and confirmed the shoes were stolen from T.J. Maxx on S. Joyce Street in nearby Pentagon City. @ArlingtonVaPD soon arrived to help.” [Twitter]

Man Accused of Assaulting Cops — “3800 block of Columbia Pike. At approximately 12:31 a.m. on October 18, police responded to the report of a dispute inside a residential building. While conducting the investigation, the suspect disregarded officer’s commands and pushed an officer to enter the scene of the investigation and subsequently stuck another officer.” [ACPD]

Nestle Says It’s Staying Here — “Nestle SA will revamp its operating structure under new CEO Laurent Freixe, the company said Thursday, including combining its Latin America and North America regions — but the changes won’t impact the company’s presence in Rosslyn. Nestle USA, which is headquartered at Monday Properties’ 1812 N. Moore St., is a market within the company’s North America zone. A spokesperson told me Thursday that Nestle is ‘committed’ to its location in Arlington in light of the changes.” [WBJ]

More on Jail Death Lawsuit –“The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office, which manages the jail, released a statement to WTOP saying that it is ‘aware of the lawsuit recently filed. … At this time, the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office has not been named as a party in the lawsuit,’ the office said. ‘However, we are fully committed to cooperating with all relevant authorities.’ Specifically, the lawsuit was filed against numerous individuals and organizations responsible for Thompson’s health care.” [WTOP]

Covid Trending Down in Va. — “Overall respiratory illness activity in Virginia is low and COVID-19 emergency department visits are trending down. The state has had 61 deaths related to COVID-19, flu, and/or respiratory syncytial virus in the past six weeks. Matthew Brand Parker passed away October 14, 2024, at his home in Arlington, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Lea Alice Lancaster Parker; sons Knox George Parker and Logan Lancaster Parker; and his mother, Georgia Lee Parker. He was preceded in death by his father, George Allen Parker.

Matt was born on May 2, 1977, at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Derwood, Maryland. He attended Col. Zadok Magruder High School in Rockville, Maryland, and received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Tennessee in 2001.

Brewery Coming to Clarendon — “[Charlottesville-based brewery] Three Notch’d has leased about 10,000 square feet of ground-floor space now occupied by Barnes & Noble, which is contracting into, and reconfiguring, its second-floor space at 2800 Clarendon Blvd… Three Notch’d had been seeking locations in the D.C. area for some time, and was drawn to Clarendon as a high-profile, dense space that was also accessible and not stuffy.” [WBJ]

Shot Fired on Columbia Pike — “ACPD is investigating a shot fired incident at Columbia Pike at S. Glebe Road. Preliminary, suspect and victim were involved in a fight when the suspect discharged a firearm before fleeing the scene. No injuries reported at this time.” [Twitter]

Changes to Americana Development — “JBG Smith Properties is proposing to reduce the number of units and parking at its Americana Hotel redevelopment project across from Amazon.com Inc.’s HQ2 in Pentagon City. A pair of minor site plan amendment applications submitted Monday to Arlington County’s planning department would reduce the number of planned apartments by about 10%, from 692 units to 572 units, and parking by about 36%, from 394 spaces to 253 spaces.” [WBJ]

Attempted Burglary in Buckingham — “The victim was inside her residence when she heard a noise and observed the male suspect allegedly attempting to open a window to the residence. The victim yelled and the suspect fled the scene on foot. During the course of the investigation, officers identified the suspect and took him into custody in the 4300 block of Arlington Boulevard.” [ACPD]

Amazon, Dominion Going Nuclear — “Amazon.com Inc. signed an agreement with utility giant Dominion Energy Virginia on Wednesday to pursue small modular reactor nuclear development in the commonwealth to help meet the surging demand for energy… The Seattle tech giant formally announced the agreement during an event at its second headquarters in Arlington. U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Virginia Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and others attended the event.” [WBJ]
