License Plate Cameras Destroyed — A 21-year-old Alexandria man faces charges after allegedly using a baseball bat to destroy multiple Flock Safety license plate reader cameras across the city in mid-June, including some near Fairlington. Emergency Landing Near Reservoir — A military helicopter based at Joint Base Andrews made a precautionary landing near the Georgetown Reservoir in Northwest D.C. on Monday night after the crew observed “vibrating mechanical sounds.” All four crew members were safe. Virginia Posts Budget Surplus — Gov. School Standards Delay Rejected — The Virginia Department of Education said its rejected bid to postpone tougher reading and math benchmarks by two years grew out of legislative mandates and watchdog recommendations. Virginia Pushes Solar Discounts — Virginia is partnering with the nonprofit Switch Together to cut the cost of home solar arrays through a bulk-buying reverse auction, which Spanberger touted as a way to lower utility bills. Toddler Rescued From Window — A toddler was rescued after firefighters found him dangling from a sixth-floor window in Seven Corners. Crews were called to the 3100 block of South Manchester Street around 3:15 p.m. and broke down the door to reach the child, who was not injured. Volunteers to Map Heat Islands — More than 30 teams of citizen scientists will measure temperature and humidity along 30 routes in Arlington, Fairfax County and Alexandria on Thursday as part of the Urban Heat Island Mapping Project. “This will be the most granular measurement of heat ever attempted throughout Northern Virginia,” said Chris Topoleski, executive director of the Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions.
