Neighbors continue pushback on church’s plans to build affordable housing for LGBTQ+ seniors

A proposal to redevelop a Lyon Village church as affordable housing for LGBTQ+ seniors continues to get pushback from some neighbors.

Clarendon Presbyterian Church has been seeking to redevelop its property at 1305 N. Jackson Street in partnership with True Ground Housing Partners. Conceptual site plans filed last May depict a six-story building with 102 units, as well as a church and childcare center totaling 8,530 square feet.

Arlington speed camera relocates to near Swanson Middle School

The speed camera on Lorcom Lane has relocated to another school zone.

The camera installed in January on the 4100 block of Lorcom Lane, near Dorothy Hamm Middle School, has moved to the northbound 1100 block of Patrick Henry Drive near Swanson Middle School in Westover Village.

Forceful debate over Arlington County’s approach to a recent surge in immigration enforcement dominated a County Board meeting this weekend.

Following extensive public comments and shouted chants and boos from dozens of advocates, several Board members raised the possibility of once again revising county policy on when local police can contact federal law enforcement.

Amid mass federal layoffs, local businesses and resource centers are responding to a surge in Arlington residents seeking jobs.

While business owners say they’ve received a flood of inquiries from people now out of work, the Arlington Employment Center has seen a 45% year-over-year increase in people accessing services.

Arlington seeing a bump in potholes after snowy winter

Arlington drivers may be experiencing some bumpier-than-usual commutes as the county continues to fix potholes formed during a cold and snowy winter.

Between Nov. 1 and March 1, the county’s Water, Sewer and Streets team recorded 499 potholes — the highest number since the winter of 2022, county spokesperson Kiara Candelaria Nieves told ARLnow.

Demolition begins at Red Lion Hotel, with new apartments expected by fall 2027

Demolition has begun at the Red Lion Hotel as plans to replace it with a 441-unit apartment building move forward.

Crews have been at work at 1501 Arlington Blvd, demolishing brick structures built in the 1950s as Reston-based Orr Partners plans to build an eight-story apartment building on the 2.2-acre site.

Large public company arrives in Ballston, relocating headquarters from Maryland

A large, publicly traded company has landed in Arlington, noting the convenient location and nearby amenities of its new spot in Ballston.

Argan, Inc. — which pulled in $257 million in revenue in the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2025 — has relocated its headquarters to Two Liberty Center at 4075 Wilson Blvd.

Another office-to-apartment project could bring 269 units to Ballston

Even more Arlington office space could become apartments after plans for another adaptive reuse project in Ballston were filed last month.

The owner of 4100 Fairfax Drive, the 13-story tower home to Bronson Bierhall, proposes to convert the structure into an apartment building with 269 housing units. Site plans call for 186 one-bedroom apartments, 66 two-bedroom apartments and 17 studios.

A popular drop-off event for electronics and hazardous household materials has been canceled, due to high expected attendance at an Arlington Public Schools job fair.

Arlington County announced on Friday that its spring E-CARE event, originally scheduled to happen this Saturday at Wakefield High School, was being canceled due to an APS recuitment event set to happen around the same time.

As Arlington parking project continues, some spots will now cost $4.25 an hour

A year into a project experimenting with parking prices, the divide between the most and least expensive street parking in Arlington continues to widen.

The latest round of changes increases the prices of 29% of parking spots included in the program, but decreases the cost of 12% of parking spaces.

The Lock Up Self Storage has filed plans to rebuild the headquarters of the National Association of Federally-Insured Credit Unions as a storage facility with 5,580 square feet of retail space.
