Tivoli Gourmet & Pastry in Ballston has reopened after about two months of renovations.

The bakery above the Ballston Metro station at 901 N. Stuart Street returns with a simple, revamped interior design and new menu items alongside its usual breakfast offerings, assorted pastries and decorated cakes.


Cold Stone Creamery’s second Arlington location has started serving scoops.

Located at 3141 Langston Blvd, the ice cream shop opened its doors on Monday in the Lyon Village Shopping Center, seven months after announcing plans to open there.

Mr Wash is offering free car washes tomorrow — Thursday, Aug. 15 — in honor of back-to-school season.

All 11 Mr Wash locations in Northern Virginia, Maryland and Delaware — including the Arlington spots at 4148 S. Four Mile Run Drive and 101 N. Glebe Road — are participating in the promotion. To claim the offer, customers don’t need to do anything other than visit a Mr Wash, the company said.


After eight months in the making, Dumpling District opened its “flagship” location alongside a new Kung Fu Tea in Pentagon City last week.

The two businesses share a space in the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, next to Häagen-Dazs on the mall’s Metro level entrance. Though Dumpling District has four other spots across the D.C. area, this is its first ever dine-in location with sit-down service.

Forty years since its founding, the Eden Center remains a community pillar of Falls Church and thriving destination for visitors from throughout the D.C. area and beyond.

Known for its immigrant-run restaurants and grocery stores, the expansive commercial center — situated just over the Arlington border on the 6700 block of Wilson Blvd — is a landmark of Northern Virginia’s Vietnamese community.


A new donation program at Reagan National Airport is providing local charities with unopened and gently used toiletries that would otherwise be thrown away.

Since April, the “Donate Don’t Discard” initiative has collected 2,913 items that failed to comply with TSA restrictions and would otherwise have gone to the landfill. Instead, products such as toothpaste, lotion, hair gel and sunscreen now go to D.C.-area charities that distribute products to unhoused people, domestic violence survivors and other people in need of basic necessities.


Nearly every morning for the past four years, an Arlington 87-year-old has made the trek from his apartment in Ballston to Glencarlyn Park to scour the recreation area for litter.

Alan Wile typically leaves his home around 7 a.m. and spends the next two to three hours combing the trails and picnic areas of the 100-acre park. He collects an average of three to four bags of trash each day — everything from beer bottles and cans to discarded diapers and plastic bags.

An Arlington-based pizza chain, now under a new CEO, has set its sights on further expansion in the D.C. area and beyond.

Jim Biafore, who became CEO of Pupatella last month, told ARLnow that the chain — which already operates 10 restaurants in D.C. and Virginia — is in “growth mode.”
