Arlington listeners tuning into 96.7 FM can once again catch lo-fi beats on AIM’s public radio station, WERA. Every now and then, they’ll hear a message inviting them to listen online at WERA.fm.


Falls Church officials are considering whether to allow public safety aides to issue parking tickets, direct traffic and respond to abandoned vehicles.

Under current Falls Church city code, only sworn law enforcement officers have the ability to conduct parking and traffic control.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Army’s history is closely tied to its cavalry units, those soldiers who rode into battle on horseback. But the service announced Tuesday that it’s moving toward a future without the ceremonial horses and will put most of them up for adoption.


A working group on affordable housing met last week to explore possible solutions to ever-spiraling costs for Arlington’s low- and moderate-income households.

Though the hour-long meeting on July 1 didn’t resolve any core issues, members suggested that pushing developers to provide more funding to the county’s Affordable Housing Investment Fund might be the best way to get more apartments built in Arlington.

Construction on a new four-track bridge, meant to expand rail traffic between Arlington and D.C., is expected to get underway later this month.

The $1 billion undertaking by the development firm Skanska and infrastructure company FlatironDragados is on track to begin in the coming weeks, Skanska announced in a press release yesterday (Monday).


For Arlington Democrats, the number to beat on Nov. 4 is 51,465.

That’s the difference between the number of votes cast in the county, in 2021, for Democrat Terry McAuliffe (73,013) over Republican Glenn Youngkin (21,548). McAuliffe lost that race, falling short by about 64,000 votes statewide.


With the cost of a two-bedroom apartment above $3,000 for another month, Arlington rent continued a gradual upward trajectory in June.

The county’s median rent for an apartment was up 0.3% month-over-month, contributing to an increase of 3.6% since the start of the year and 2.6% year-over-year, according to data reported by Apartment List.

Federal cuts to Medicaid and food-assistance programs are expected to place greater strain on Arlington’s most vulnerable residents and the social services that support them.

Arlington County officials, health-care workers and nonprofits are still scrambling to determine the local impacts of the new federal spending bill approved last week.


A proposed 845-unit redevelopment project in Rosslyn has won the support of the Arlington Transportation Commission.

The commission voted 11-0 in support of the project on a 2.3-acre site at 1901 and 1911 Fort Myer Drive, near Gateway Park.
