One lane on the 21st Street N. bridge over I-66 is closing for two months starting today (Monday).
Until early August, only northbound traffic may pass over the bridge near the MOM’s Organic Market north of Courthouse. Then the opposite lane will closed as construction crews complete deck work on the other side, the Virginia Department of Transportation said in a press release.
A big traffic pattern change is coming this weekend, as part of ongoing construction on the GW Parkway.
The northbound lanes of the Parkway will close between Route 123, just north of Arlington, and the Beltway. The closure will allow for work on the ramp from the Parkway to I-495.
For the second time in as many weeks Columbia Pike was closed due to a gas leak apparently caused by construction activity.
The incident happened shortly before noon on the Pike near S. George Mason Drive.
The driver of a car was rescued after a crash on S. Glebe Road.
The crash happened just before 2 p.m. on Glebe near 19th Street S., in the Green Valley area. All lanes of S. Glebe Road were closed as of publication time.
The southbound lanes of N. Glebe Road were blocked at N. Woodstock Street due to a crash involving a school bus.
The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. Friday, near Glebe Elementary School, and involves the bus and a car. Two students were on board the bus but no injuries have been reported, according to initial reports.
(Updated at 11:25 a.m.) All lanes of northbound I-395 were blocked at Glebe Road during the Thursday evening commute due to a fatal motorcycle crash.
State police are investigating the crash, which happened just before 5 p.m. The motorcycle rider was dead upon police arrival in a scene described by arriving officers as disturbing and spread out over a distance.
An unusual crash blocked lanes on I-66 Friday evening.
Three people were hurt, none seriously, in the crash on eastbound I-66 near Patrick Henry Drive, according to the Arlington County Fire Department.
Update at 8:45 p.m. — Columbia Pike is back open.
Update at 5:50 p.m. — The gas leak has been stopped, the fire department said just after 5:30 p.m. Columbia Pike remains closed to traffic, however, according to traffic cameras.

Demonstrators blocked several major commuter routes and intersections in the District, including I-395 and Constitution Avenue, bringing inbound traffic to a standstill on the GW Parkway, I-66, Route 50 and I-395. The Virginia Dept. of Transportation diverted drivers from I-66 onto Route 110 and advised others to seek alternate routes.
The traffic signal at the intersection of 10th Street N. and N. Highland Street in Clarendon is out after a crash.
(Updated at 3:50 p.m.) A multi-vehicle crash with injuries and at least one person reported to be trapped blocked all westbound lanes of I-66 in Arlington this afternoon.
The crash happened around 2:15 p.m. near the exit to Langston Blvd and Spout Run. The person trapped has since been freed by firefighters, according to scanner traffic.
(Updated at 10:10 p.m.) All lanes of S. Glebe Road were blocked between Walter Reed Drive and Columbia Pike this afternoon due to a crash.
Initial reports suggest that two vehicles collided near the intersection of Glebe and 15th Street S. around 1:45 p.m. One vehicle flipped on its side and at least one vehicle occupant was reported to be trapped and injured.
