A Reston man has been sentenced to at least seven years in prison for multiple sex crimes in Arlington.
Matthew Coble’s sentencing, handed down Friday by Circuit Court Judge Daniel S. Fiore II, follows his convictions for aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties with a minor — crimes involving two different victims.
Arlington School Board members for six months have promised a new approach to tackling the school system’s budget-development process.

What defines luxury in housing? It’s perhaps the most overused word in the English language. I recently saw a sign for “Affordable Luxury Apartments” and smiled to myself. Arlington, particularly Rosslyn, with communities like Turnberry Tower, Pierce, and Gaslight Square, has achieved critical mass in luxury condominium options. The condo market in Arlington continues to get better, consumers demand more thoughtful design, and local product becomes more desirable. For new condominiums, luxury is really made up of two factors: price point of the offering (a reflection of location, unit finishes and quality of plan), and condo fees (amenities, level of service.)
Pricing is predominantly set by the location. A majority of value is determined by neighborhood desirability, socio-economics of its residents, quality of schools, convenience to employment, retail, transit, market factors, and social centers. Arlington has all of these in spades!

Planning Comm. Backs Melwood Plan — Arlington Planning Commission members voted unanimously Monday night to support Melwood’s plan, opposed by some local residents, for redevelopment of its parcel at 750 23rd Street S. that would add affordable housing to the site. Towing May Get Costlier — “Virginia drivers could soon see higher towing fees under legislation that’s advancing toward the governor’s desk, but the decision to raise rates will remain in the hands of local governments… The bill proposes increasing the maximum initial towing and hookup fee for passenger vehicles from $150 to $210 — a rate that a recent state study deemed ‘reasonable.'” [Virginia Mercury]

In case there was any doubt, Wednesday will be a snow day for local students.
Arlington Public Schools and Falls Church City Public Schools both announced that schools will be closed tomorrow due to the ongoing winter storm. They join Alexandria, Fairfax County and other D.C. area districts in making that call.
Snow is continuing to fall in Arlington, as most roads remain at least partially snow-covered.
The snowy conditions — some 5-7 inches are expected to fall by the time the storm wraps up Wednesday morning — have caused major issues on the roads.
