Even before Virginia voters decide on a new congressional map, Democrats are piling in to run for districts proposed under a redistricting plan that is designed to give their party a near sweep of the state’s U.S. House seats.

The latest entrant is Olivia Troye, who was an aide to former Republican Vice President Mike Pence and has become a vocal critic of President Donald Trump. She announced today (Tuesda)y that she’ll run in Virginia’s newly created 7th Congressional District, which would include much of Arlington, joining an already crowded field.


News

Action on two major development proposals in the Langston Boulevard corridor will highlight this weekend’s County Board meeting.

One of the projects is a 300-unit residential building at 3130 Langston Blvd, while the other is a 47-unit townhouse project at 2134 N. Taylor Street. Both have received the Planning Commission’s support, although county staff have recommended against the townhouses.

The Arlington Festival of the Arts is returning later this month in Clarendon, bringing over 125 exhibitors in a variety of mediums.

The outdoor art festival will be back for its 12th year on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26 at 1051 N. Highland Street, near the Clarendon Metro station. From 10 a.m.-5 p.m., local and national artists will showcase original pieces in an all-ages, pet-friendly art walk.


Event

St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington is hosting its monthly run & walk social on June 18th (Thursday) at 6:30pm. The 3 or 4 mile run (or walk) will start in the back parking lot (off N. Stafford St.) and end at St. Agnes. Participants can enjoy complimentary pizza afterwards. Drinks are BYOB. Extra points if you wear Catholic school swag. Thank you Father Oetjen, who started off our May run from Court House to/from the Marine Corps War Memorial with a prayer (and ran a competitive pace). Also, thank you to the Notre Dame and Georgetown alumni who wore their schools’ colors!

A butcher and deli chain with a popular Philadelphia-style cheesesteak is planning to open a new spot in Crystal City.

Soko Butcher is coming to a 1,600-square-foot retail bay at 269 19th Court S., Suite 95, on the ground floor of the Grace and Reva apartments, owner Brad Feickert told ARLnow.

Police arrested a teenager yesterday (Monday) after he reportedly brandished a gun at two victims walking on the W&OD Trail.

The two female victims were out on the trail near Glencarlyn Park around 7:15 p.m. when they encountered the suspect. According to scanner chatter, he began yelling and making threats, then pulled out a gun and cocked it.


Events

George Mason University’s Virginia Square campus is hosting a health-centered festival this weekend, with a fun run, live fitness classes and a DJ.

The celebration, called Clarendon FitFest, kicks off at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Mason Square Plaza (3351 Fairfax Drive) with a 5K run and 2-mile walk. These will be followed by a “fitness fair” with live class demonstrations and free giveaways until 12:30 p.m.

The family of the 19-year-old killed in an October 2024 car crash has settled a wrongful death lawsuit filed against the driver and members of his family.

An Arlington circuit court judge approved the settlement between Michael Rados, the father of Nicholas Rados, and Brooks Bare in court last week, online court records showed.

A year-long restoration effort has prepared one of Arlington’s most historic treasures for enjoyment by future generations.

Members of the Dr. Elisha Dick chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held a rededication ceremony for Boundary Stone Southwest 8 on April 10.
