Discarded marijuana joints in local parks are raising some concerns about the safety of Arlingtonians’ furry friends.

“In some of Arlington’s parks we need to be more vigilant to protect our dogs from accidental marijuana ingestion,” Ann Marie Douglass wrote in an article for the Arlington Neighborhood News Exchange, which distributes resident-written content to civic association newsletters across the county.

In America’s “fittest city,” some dogs may get the chance to match their owners’ athleticism through a new canine fitness program in Green Valley.

Snouts & Stouts, the indoor dog park and bar that opened 2709 S. Oakland Street last fall, has introduced a new program through Canine Cardio, a Northern Virginia pet care provider offering “a comprehensive range of fitness and training services” for dogs.

A dog-friendly block party originally scheduled for this Sunday has been pushed back to the end of September.

With temperatures on Sunday at one point expected to reach around 90 degrees — the forecast now shows a high in the mid-80s and scattered showers — the Summer Bark Bash in Green Valley has been rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 29 “for the safety and comfort of all our dogs and their humans.”

Free dog washes are coming to the grand opening of a new pet supply store and “grooming salon” in North Arlington.

Wag N’ Wash, now open at the former site of Loyal Companion pet store at 2501 N. Harrison Street, in the Lee-Harrison Shopping Center, offers dog owners a chance to pamper their pups with self-service dog wash stations, professional grooming services and an array of pet products.

Arlington is poised to buy two warehouses used by a dog-boarding facility in order to expand Jennie Dean Park.

On Saturday, the Arlington County Board is set to approve an agreement to buy the properties housing The Board Hound, at 3520 and 3522 S. Four Mile Run Drive in the Green Valley neighborhood, for $2 million.
